Work Arrangement :
Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
The Role:
The Additive Innovation Lab (AIL), located in Cole Engineering Center, is the central hub of additive manufacturing (AM) education for GM. The AIL enables users to learn and apply additive manufacturing principles through hands-on operation of various professional-grade AM machines.
The Engineering Intern will possess a basic technical knowledge in mechanical engineering, CAD design, and materials science, combined with a desire to work hands-on and teach others to do so too. The candidate should have a passion for 3D printing, technology, and a desire to continuously learn new things!
Responsibilities:
Support or lead additive design and manufacturing application projects
Support AIL operations including safety, hands-on machine operation, maintenance, training, materials management, etc.
Train Engineering personnel on the use and operation of the Additive Manufacturing machines in the AIL
Support Engineering personnel in Design-For-Additive-Manufacturing (DfAM) techniques to optimize designs and minimize time and material used in builds
Assist AM education efforts via Degreed Learning Path creation, video content creation, training classes, and more special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Industrial Engineering, or Product Design
Must be graduating between August 2024 and May 2027
What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Successful completion of CAD (Solid Works/NX/Catia/etc.) and Analysis (CAE/FEA) courses
Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships
Direct hands-on operational experience with AM equipment – FDM and SLA processes preferred
Knowledgeable in appropriate design methods and procedures based on common modeling process
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Student Stipend: GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2024 Student Program.
Pay Transparency: The salary range for this role is $4,300 - $4,900, dependent upon class status and degree.
