The Battery Cell Group develops and implements innovative processes that enable robust manufacturing for battery cell assemblies. This Warren, Michigan-based position offers the opportunity to leverage solid experience in polymer processing to develop and implement new processes for the manufacturing of advanced battery cell technologies.
Job Responsibilities:
Interface with Product Engineering to ensure design supports robust ME assembly processes (design for manufacturing).
Evaluate manufacturing feasibility for advanced battery cell design concepts
Develop process strategies for implementation of advanced battery cell design concepts
Scout for and develop potential innovative processes to improve process yield
Support external partners in their process development activities
Participate in PDT and Core technical reviews with development partners
Engage cross-functionally to ensure smooth transfer of advanced manufacturing processes from Manufacturing System Research to Manufacturing Engineering
Support future battery cell program cost model development
Manage routine problem-solving activities around build and assembly in the battery cell laboratory
Analyze cell build quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools such as Red-X, Design of Experiments or DFSS
Develop and maintain necessary documentation (JES/TIS, PFD, PAD's, PFMEA)
Perform root cause analysis, develop solutions, implement corrective action plans in the battery cell laboratory and at component suppliers
This position is not eligible for ISP, ITAP, or localizations.
Additional DescriptionMinimum Requirements:
BS in Engineering (Chemical, Material Science or Mechanical)
3+ years of experience in process development for electrochemical systems (e.g. battery cells, fuel cells, ultracapacitors etc.)
Strong knowledge and experience of process engineering principles, demonstrated in a manufacturing setting
Experience with specification and procurement of new equipment
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of statistical problem-solving skills
Candidate who enjoys working on equipment – hands on
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Demonstrated ability to work independently while exhibiting solid technical judgement and good project management skills
Ability to deal with ambiguity and effectively cope with change
Experience in polymer processing technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to think outside the box and provide creative new solution ideas Proficient in working in development environment
Experience developing manufacturing processes
DFSS Green Belt Certification
Additional Information:
Travel requirements –approximately 10-15% (including international travel)
