As Algorithm Engineer Intern in the Delivery Intelligence Group, you will be a driving force in developing state of the art optimization algorithms that unlock BrightDrop's ecosystem of last-mile delivery vehicles for customers. You will work on the mathematical design and software engineering of the core schemes that BrightDrop uses to control and optimize electrified goods delivery.

Responsibilities:

· Develop flexible, high-performance optimization schemes for multi-modal last-mile delivery using the BrightDrop ecosystem of products, including:

o Point-to-point network routing

o Hierarchical vehicle routing problem

o EV charging and energy management

· Identify and mitigate performance bottlenecks, quantify algorithm tradeoffs, and exploit opportunities to deliver faster solutions without loss of quality or generality

· Work with other teams and data scientists to integrate existing tools and data sources to improve algorithm fidelity and performance

Additional Description

Required:

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in applied mathematics, operations research, computer science, engineering, economics, or related quantitative field
  • Enrolled in a PHD program
  • 3+ years of industry experience developing and deploying optimization algorithms to manage daily business operations
  • Proven track record of innovation in optimization schemes, including leveraging existing tools to solve new problems in creative ways
  • Experience with collaborative algorithm development and working in teams using agile software development methodologies together with distributed version control systems (e.g., git)
  • Preferred:

  • Domain knowledge in transportation and energy systems, graph algorithms, combinatorial optimization, and/or reinforcement learning
  • Self-driven with a passion for transportation decarbonization
  • Remote: This position does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis.

    The monthly base compensation for this role is between $7,200-$8,300.

    Base compensation will be based on your level of degree.
