In our quest to zero, zero, zero here at GM we are looking for highly motivated and energized individuals to join our diverse and high performing battery cell manufacturing engineering team. In this role you will be working in a fast pace, high tech environment. The Battery Cell Assembly Process Engineer will provide extensive support to the Ultium cell plants for both present and future battery cell generations. The position will interface with Ultium personnel and GM Global ME leadership on cell assembly technology. This is an outstanding opportunity to work on leading edge technology as part of the electrification of transport. Primary location Warren, MI with regular travel to Ohio and/or Tennessee.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Technical expert for Battery Cell Assembly processes including development and approval of cell assembly equipment specifications

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Ultium partners and support the Ultium joint venture plant

  • Work with equipment suppliers on design, build, validation and start-up of cell assembly equipment

  • Optimization of cell manufacturing line layout

  • Support implementation of GM safety specifications and equipment safety reviews

  • Develop assembly strategies for implementation of next generation battery cell technology

  • Interface with leadership and support development of battery cell manufacturing strategies

  • Development of engineering documentation

  • Utilize a considerable amount of creativity and initiative, as well as a high level of independent judgment

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with major in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Physics, or similar experience.
  • 1+ years industry experience in Battery Cell Assembly Process, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Development, Project Execution, or similar.
  • Knowledge of APQP & PFMEA, Process Control Plans, Bill of Process (BoP) and Bill of Equipment (BoE)
  • Development and understanding of engineering specifications
  • Ability to understand pneumatic, mechanical and control drawings
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (PDCA, DMAIC, Six Sigma, Red-X, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate at a high level cross functionally with stake holders from different cultures
  • Understanding of mathematical statistics & Statistical Process Control
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Battery Cell manufacturing technologies
  • Deep knowledge of high-speed assembly equipment used in battery cell manufacturing preferred
  • Experience with installation, debug and start-up of high-volume assembly equipment
