This Role Offers the Following Work Appropriately Strategy: Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off- site as frequently as needed or desired.

The Role

This role offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative team focused virtual process development for battery cell manufacturing. 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models are used to directly impact manufacturing process through the design of process equipment or optimization of their operation. Simulations are focused on battery cell manufacturing though may also extend to electric motors and drive units.

What You'll Do

  • Development of new and innovative CFD simulations related to battery cell manufacturing
  • Collaboratively work in small teams focused on the development of complex multiphase flow and/or thermal simulations
  • Additionally, this position may also develop multiphase / thermal simulations for electric motors and drive units
  • Application of developed and developing capabilities to directly impact design, manufacturing process, and for the elimination of hardware testing
  • Provide component-level and/or system-level design recommendations to Process and Design Responsible Engineers based on interpretation of analysis results
  • Participate in process/product design and development teams and present analysis results to engineering peers and management
  • Provide technical insight for problem resolution by leveraging analysis results
  • Benchmarking and evaluation of new procedures, technology, or software tools
  • Contribute to the development of automation tools using Python or Java

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with CFD simulations
  • 2+ years of experience with multiphase flow simulations in particular
  • Familiarity or practical experience with the principles of various manufacturing processes or vehicle propulsion system design, operation, or testing
  • What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with coursework in heat transfer and fluid mechanics preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with CFD analysis of manufacturing processes or propulsion related systems (including batteries)
  • Experience with STAR-CCM+ or Simerics-MP+ CFD software
  • Experience with CFD optimization tools
  • Experience with test to model correlation
  • Experience with programming in Python, Java, or equivalent languages
  • Linux experience in distributed computing environments
  • Experience with the latest CFD visualization techniques
  • Knowledge of Siemens NX CAD modeling
