BrightDrop is seeking a Data Manager to improve our ability to develop data-powered products for our customers. This role will advance our understanding of some of our most valuable data sources (e.g., vehicle telematics data), empower teams within Product and Engineering to be proficient consumers of data, and onboard new data sources to support emerging data needs.
The ideal candidate excels in data analysis and visualization, can organize complex information for consumption by a range of audiences, and communicates effectively with stakeholders in Product and Engineering. A bias for action and a self-starter mindset is important in BrightDrop's fast-paced and fluid environment.
The Data Manager will be part of the Product organization and will require some collaboration and communication skills that overlap with product managers, potentially making this role interesting for aspiring PMs.
Responsibilities
Gather data needs and requirements from teams in Product and Engineering
Lead the validation of new data signals, including periodically operating our Zevo and Trace
Be the go-to expert for telemetry data related questions
Document data definitions for use by other teams
Define and implement new measures of data quality
Propose tests for automated data quality measurement tools
Create and manage data quality dashboards
Document data quality findings and communicate to stakeholders
Analyze data by querying a variety of sources
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
2+ years of experience with data analysis and visualization, preferably with large (millions of records) data
Familiarity with SQL or similar query languages, and willingness to learn others
Analytical curiosity to interrogate data, propose and answer data questions, and get to the bottom of results that don't make sense
High attention to detail to spot data issues or miscommunications between teams
Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills as other teams will be relying on your work and you will be a primary resource for data- related questions
Independence and bias for action, needed to help us “Operate with Velocity” even in an ambiguous environment
Can-do attitude to ensure we “Find a Way” despite challenges
This is a hybrid role based in Palo Alto, CA. Work will be performed onsite 3 days a week.

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant in the California Bay Area which includes the following counties: Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz might be paid in accordance with the California law.
The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.
The expected base compensation for this role is: ($77,400 - $118,600 USD Annual). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
