BrightDrop UX:

BrightDrop User Experience (UX) is made up of multi-disciplinary teams of UX Software Designers, Researchers, Writers, HCI and Human Factors experts, Creative Designers, and Industrial Designers. Our goal is to design and build the most relevant and delightful products we possibly can.

As a Lead Product Designer, you will own and define the user experience with physical devices in the BrightDrop ecosystem. You'll design user interaction with electric carts which move smaller payloads and can be used with, or independently of, vehicles. You'll create compelling and useful experiences across all touchpoints for customers to streamline delivery.

As a member of the UX team and in particular the hardware experiences group, you'll work with digital UX designers, UX researchers, hardware and software engineers, and vehicle and industrial designers. We're also ramping up our hands-on prototyping capabilities in Palo Alto and you'll help make that happen.

What You Will Do:
  • Work with product managers and engineering partners to define the overall UX and HCI strategy for delivery-specific last-mile solutions.

  • Identify user needs and business requirements to define design principles, goals, and success. Provide input to the PRD.

  • Own the service blueprint: user journeys, key touchpoints, UX value proposition.

  • Work cross-functionally with product management, engineers, industrial and digital designers on product designs, including displays, controls, form factors and volumes.

  • Document functional flows. Deliver detailed HCI/UX designs.

  • Understand user behavior and metrics to help validate the experience. Help the UX Research team conduct formative and evaluative studies.

  • Lead UX reviews with stakeholders.

  • Work with engineering to build up our Palo Alto-based prototyping and test capabilities.

  • Ultimately, this role will be accountable for creating useful, usable, and delightful products.

  • Additional Description We Are Looking For:
  • Ability to operate autonomously as a senior member of the UX team and to mentor junior designers.

  • At least 5 years of experience defining HCI/UX experiences for physical devices.

  • Systems-level design experience for hardware-centered products that have a software component.

  • Deep enough experience with manipulation, mechanics, and materials to collaborate closely with industrial designers in creating hardware design solutions.

  • Firm understanding of ergonomic guidelines and methods for evaluating human workload.

  • Expert-level skills writing user journeys, HCI requirements and standards, and architecting functional flows.

  • Experience running usability testing for physical devices.

  • Experience communicating objectives and desired outcomes with hardware and software engineers, digital UX designers, industrial designers, and product teams.

  • A track record of delivering excellent user experience across hardware and software.

  • A plus:

  • Ergonomics expertise.

  • Experience with delivery services.

  • Experience with autonomous robots, intelligent sensors, or IoT devices.

  • Sketching skills in 2D and 3D.

  • The expected base compensation for this role is: (197,110 - 291,080 USD Annual). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

Benefits: GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs. Benefit options include medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, employee assistance program, GM vehicle discounts and more.
