Description

Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time, but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week.

The Role

In this role, your work will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies, and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to troubleshoot and follow issues to resolve. You will be responsible for developing manufacturing processes, defining equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence, and designing flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machinery, and facilities necessary for the production and/or movement of parts and assemblies. In this position, you will use substantial independent judgment in complex or unusual situations. Your responsibility may involve training others and assigning work to a small group of employees.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing and material handling processes for an assigned area.

  • Analyze and implement product or machinery designs for the best method for manufacturing processes and optimized material flow.

  • Provide technical support for specific plant and material operations.

  • Interact on a regular basis with design, product and manufacturing engineering teams.

  • Provide direction to engineering support group and vendors.

  • Evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment.

  • Develop technical knowledge and test advanced process technology and lean principles.

  • Demonstrate strong analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.

  • Manage major projects and assignments with full autonomy and accountability for results.

    Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent training/experience

  • 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience

  • 3 years' experience managing major projects including new product launches and/or material automation

  • 3 years' experience providing technical direction and leadership on new technologies and automated systems

  • 3 years' controls, robotics and safety experience

  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or Devicenet networks

  • Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated success in “Design for Manufacturing” and overall project execution

  • Demonstrated experience in providing technical direction and leadership of manufacturing processes (welding, dispense, throughput, as examples) and material handling automation equipment and systems (Bluebotics, WMS, Electronic Pull Systems, as examples)

  • Willingness to travel from home for extended periods of time (around 30% throughout North America)

  • High level of problem solving and issue resolution aptitude

  • Ability to work with an extended team with many inputs towards a common goal

  • Ability to lead a work group, as well as managing multiple projects

  • Ability to work OT or off-shift as needed

  • What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 3+ years of Bluebotics experience

  • Experience with Automated Mobile Equipment Systems Controls and Design

  • Understanding of GMS and 4 walls within the site or program

  • Prior work experience as a controls engineer in the automotive field

  • Knowledge of GM's global controls architecture

  • Certified Project Manager

  • 6-sigma Green or Blackbelt
