PPCO (Program Product Cost Optimization) is responsible for providing robust data driven cost estimates as inputs to the GM program teams to support and develop profitable business cases. Within PPCO, the GMCO$T Team, consisting of SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) have responsibility for developing and maintaining strategies, methods, and processes which deliver six sigma results. The SME role involves a high level of initiative, creativity, and independent judgment, while leading multiple projects at the same time. Proven knowledge of cost estimating software, methods and a thorough understanding of Should Costing along with comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing process and vendor tooling is critical.
Scope of Responsibilities
Utilizing cost estimating systems, the candidate shall be able to generate ground-up / detailed cost estimates that encompass both piece price and production tooling estimations.
The candidate will maintain, implement, and enhance current and new software solutions used to perform cost estimations, including updating master data.
Prepare training material and facilitate training sessions for all data analytics, cost estimating methods, software, best practices, and systems.
Lead and support the development of FTQ (First Time Quality) and Best Practices to drive standardization and efficiencies.
Mentor and coach team members, emphasizing established best practices and on how to use data analysis to improve FTQ and six sigma results.
Manage, complex projects which are broad in scope and have a high degree of difficulty.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related / relevant field of study.
OEM, Tier 1, or Tier 2 cost estimating experience, developing supplier component quotes for OEM's.
Experience in the financial evaluation of technical concepts and comprehensive understanding of production processes.
Demonstrated ability to attain results, while balancing technical solutions with business imperatives.
Experience developing and using Visual Basic in Excel to develop calculators and reports.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with global team members and cross functional peers.
Able to assimilate a large amount of cost data and clearly condense / communicate information to the larger GM team in an efficient way.
Solid analytical/problem solving skills with capability to identify solutions to unusual and complex problems and being able to clearly condense and communicate this information in an efficient way.
Occasional domestic or international travel to GM facilities for training and enhanced costing collaboration and support of the specific PPCO and VCE team.
Desired Qualifications
5+ years relevant experience in automotive cost estimating, automotive manufacturing, automotive product design / engineering, or automotive purchasing.
A Graduate's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, System Engineering, or Data Analytics with concentration in Statistical Modeling Data.
Knowledge of cost modeling using Siemens Teamcenter Product Cost Management.
Knowledge of cost modeling for discreet manufacturing in multiple industries.
Proficient in financial aspects of commercial cost management for manufacturing.
Proficiency in creating programs using multiple languages such as Visual Basic in Excel, Java, SQL, Python, and others for calculations, data management, and generating reports using analytics tools like Microsoft Power BI.
