About the Role:

Our Customer Experience group is seeking a Design Group Manager - Content & Conversational Experience Design to serve as the primary thought leader for conversational experiences and content design at GM and lead a team of strategists, designers, and writers in the execution of digital experiences across a range of channels. Our studio creates customer-facing digital experiences across multiple brands and platforms, touching millions of lives across web, mobile, in-vehicle, wearable, voice, and messaging interfaces.

As the Design Group Manager - Content & Conversational Experience Design, you would work collaboratively with design leadership, a multi-disciplinary design team, agency partners, technologists, and business stakeholders to define, design, and deliver compelling and effective user experiences. As an adept team leader, you will be tasked with accurately assessing the capabilities and strengths of your team members, assisting in the establishment of quality standards for our work, identifying individual and team-level goals, people management, and skills development to ensure a world- class content & conversational design team. It will be your responsibility to ensure the experiences your team creates will meet customer expectations while facilitating cross-product and cross-brand cohesion. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering successful digital content in either client and agency environments, an understanding of human-centered design methods, and a knack for communicating a vision to enable high-performing creative teams.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the enterprise leader for cross-channel conversational design by setting the tone and working with product, technical, marketing, and agency partners to drive content initiatives across multiple brands, platforms, and programs
  • Grow and direct the content design practice within a large multi- disciplinary experience design studio
  • Manage and grow a team of content strategists, content designers, conversational designers, product designers, and writers who help craft digital experiences for web, mobile, in-vehicle, wearable, voice, and messaging interfaces
  • Become a trusted, strategic partner to product stakeholders by clearly communicating and demonstrating the value of content & conversational design, and by delivering insights that lead to demonstrable business value
  • Collaborate with design leadership to define operating standards for our studio and lead the continuous improvement of processes and outcomes in a rapidly evolving corporate environment

    Additional Description Required Experience and Education
  • 7+ years experience in content design, conversational design, or a related field
  • 2+ years experience directly managing, coaching and developing full-time employees
  • Bachelors degree in English, Communications, HCI, Design, Business, or related discipline
  • Experience building teams over time through hiring, growing, and retaining high-performing employees
  • Experience working with a variety of cross-functional partners and stakeholders (for example product managers, designers, engineers and data scientists)
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to articulate design decisions and rationale with clarity and objectivity; experience presenting to diverse audiences including senior leadership
  • Solid understanding of the user experience design process, SCRUM / Agile methodologies, and software development lifecycles
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in English, Communications, HCI, Design, Business, or related discipline
  • Experience influencing product strategy with cross-functional partners
