Summary

The Director of Engineering, Systems Engineering , is an experienced individual within the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) division, with extensive knowledge performing one's function in a fast-paced organization. As a member of the Engineering management team, one participates in executing the overall strategic technology roadmap that will drive the business growth in a very competitive market space. This position will oversee a talented team of Engineers comprising Systems, System Test, Autonomy, GN&C, Reliability, and System Safety Engineers that develop small, unmanned aircraft systems, tactical missile systems, high-altitude pseudo-satellites, and advanced research & development projects. In this role, one is responsible for building a functional organization that has the capabilities and capacities to meet the business needs.

Duties

  • Develops and leads a motivated multi-disciplined and geographically diverse Systems Engineering organization
  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves engineering tools, best practices, capabilities, and capacity to support multiple Commercial & Defense businesses within AV in global and emerging markets
  • Develops and supports effective engineering processes and procedures related to Systems Engineering, Test, and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C)
  • Effectively plans and manages engineering budgets and financial objectives consistent with the Annual Operating Plan (AOP)
  • Manages the engineering resources and staffing level consistent with the business's strategic plan & AOP
  • Coordinates IRAD & sustaining projects
  • Creates and promotes an environment where our engineers and employees can grow professionally and become the BEST at what they do
  • Provides technical expertise and guidance to their team to meet applicable deadlines
  • Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction with both internal and external customers
  • Directs a team to manage requirements evolution and traceability, subsystem requirements decomposition, system integration, and system verification & validation through the system development cycle
  • Directs a team responsible for the full life-cycle of GN&C subsystems (Guidance, Navigation & Control) including design, development, coding, debugging, testing, simulation, analysis, and maintenance
  • Directs a team responsible for developing new Autonomy capabilities for our portfolio of products
  • Defines processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas

  • Experience

  • 12+ years of successful engineering experience including 8+ years in leading Engineering organizations, managing an engineering team across multiple Product Lines
  • Experience managing remote and multi-location teams
  • Aerospace hardware and software engineering experience required
  • Proven & successful experience managing & leading a multi-disciplined engineering organization (e.g. Aerodynamics, Electrical, Video Processing, Remote Sensing, Embedded and Application Software, Mechanical- Design, Mechanical-circuit board design, Systems Engineering, Integration and Test)
  • Demonstrated competence in the development of a high quality, motivated work place
  • Experienced with Model Based Systems Engineering practices. Preferred experience implementing and championing MBSE processes, tools, and training across a multi-disciplined staff
  • Experience developing and supporting effective engineering processes and procedures related to Systems Engineering, Test, and/or GN&C
  • Experience writing Systems Safety protocols and ensuring personnel safety during field testing
  • Experience in taking a product from concept to production with contract manufacturers a plus
  • Managed requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle
  • Evaluated system performance thresholds and providing direction
  • Development of instrumented flight test vectors and data acquisition
  • Provided input for model development and simulation analysis
  • Has developed systems test plans, procedures and reports, reviewed and interpreted customer specification
  • Education

  • BS degree in Engineering (i.e., Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, etc.), MS preferred in Computer Science, Aero-Mechanical Eng., Electrical Eng. Mechanical Eng., or equivalent

  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) required, per ITAR definition
  • Occasionally may be required to travel within the Continental U.S.
  • The salary range for this role is:

    $177,280 - $265,920
