Yaskawa is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer for our Medium Voltage Drives business. This position will provide product development and future technological direction for standard and value added medium voltage drive products (specification, design, conformance verification, technical documentation, and enhancements) to assist in achieving the growth and success of the corporate medium drive business. The MV Electrical Engineer is responsible for the development, design and transition of standard and value added medium voltage drive products to the marketing, engineering, and manufacturing organizations. This role will provide technical direction, planning and support on product implementation, detail design, certification and design processes, and test equipment. The engineering team assists product marketing, application engineering, manufacturing (global), training and technical support in higher-level support and consulting requirements for priority projects.

More specifically, the MV Electrical Engineer will:

  • Create technical specifications and development of value added products (enclosures, panels, power options, etc.) for medium voltage drives.
  • Perform QC and other conformance verification type tests as required on standard and value added products for MV business.
  • Create schematics, BOMs and technical documentation for defining the value added product designs and functionality.
  • Coordinate and maintain agency (UL, CSA, CE, etc.) approval on standard and value added MV Drive products.
  • Assist in the transition of standard and value added MV Drive products to product manufacturing and product marketing.
  • Assist in review and analysis of competitive MV Drive products.
  • Assist product marketing, engineering, and technical support organizations on various issues.
  • Provide technical direction and project planning for value added MV Drive products.
  • Coordinate product design reviews with engineering, service and training for valuable feedback on design issues and enhancement.
  • Coordinate with project management between 3rd party service providers and vendors.
  • Manages and proposes both large and small projects.
  • The ideal candidate will possess:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum). MS Degree in Electrical Engineering not required but is beneficial.
  • 3 years minimum of development engineering or related design experience.
  • Working knowledge of Medium Voltage equipment and product application principals.
  • Working knowledge of Adjust Speed Drives, preferably in the application of MV drives.
  • Working knowledge of UL certification process and working knowledge of other certifying agencies such as TUV, CSA, and CE.
  • Working knowledge in 2D and 3D CAD systems. (AutoCAD or Solidworks preferred)
  • Working knowledge in design simulation software. (PSpice, Simplorer, MathCad, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital design.
  • Working knowledge of power distribution design, especially of Medium Voltage Class (2.3 kV to 15 kV)
  • Working knowledge of microprocessor and micro-controller based equipment.
