At GM environmental, we are geared towards developing creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. As an environmental engineer at the Global Technical Center Campus, you will have the opportunity to champion the air, waste and water compliance programs and be responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk. You will work cross functionally with diverse groups to create and implement best-in-class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across the site.

As an Environmental Leader, you will be working in an exciting manufacturing environment and be a part of a team fulfilling GM's Vision of Zero, Zero, Zero. As a valued member within the Sustainable Workplaces team, your role is focused on providing technical expertise, developing strategies and looking ahead for the future success of GM. We are currently looking for hardworking individuals who have a passion for the environment and who want to help make the facility a leader in environmental compliance and sustainability.

Basic Qualifications

Skills:

  • Experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, and/or Small Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements.
  • Experience:

  • Experience in environmental engineering or related science, preferably at a manufacturing operation.
  • Basic knowledge of the automotive manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Education:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering or related sciences with emphasis on environmental engineering preferred.

  • Commitment to professional development, such as the pursuit of relevant advanced degrees, certificates or diplomas, preferred.

  • Focus on driving consistent environmental stewardship programs in support of GM's mission to deliver sustainable solutions that improve the communities in which we live and work.

  • Build bridges by engaging with our Business Partners and environmental leaders to enable success for the organization, ensuring the achievement of Business Plan goals and objectives, as well as meeting regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Engage with the Ohio Enviornmental Protection Agency and any other local regulatory agencies to ensure implementation of robust environmental programs and to build relationships that support innovation and expedient resolution of concerns.

  • Develop creative solutions to complex environmental challenges.

  • Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems in support of GM's mission to deliver data driven solutions that allow us to operate efficiently now and in the future.
  • Monitor environmental parameters and progress to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate the latest technologies and provide long-term environmental solutions.

  • Demonstrate a culture of inclusion by actively listening, embracing change and educating others to work effectively together while providing environmental training and coaching.

  • Speak up to ensure we are doing the right thing for the right reasons.

  • Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs, to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance.
  • Interface with business partners and regulatory agencies to prepare required regulatory documentation and reports, schedule and perform compliance testing.
