This role is hybrid, with an expectation of travel up to 25% of the time outside of Michigan.

The role of the Facility Area Manager is to serve as the single point of contact for the facility needs related to maintenance, mobile equipment, housekeeping, and roads and grounds. You will be responsible for the development and administration of service contracts and will work closely with contracted service providers to ensure delivery of a high level of facilities services.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in large facility housekeeping and grounds maintenance operations.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • High level of administrative and organizational skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and motivate employees.
  • High level of negotiating skills to resolve issues with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • High level of analytical skills to evaluate and resolve operational problems
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage complex contracts with multiple suppliers, contractors, and customers within budget and on schedule.
  • Computer skills including competency in office software and electronic information systems.
  • Travel Requirement 25% of time

    Scope:

  • Responsible for daily coordination of all maintenance, mobile equipment fleet, roads and grounds, and housekeeping service provider activities to ensure timely and efficient delivery of high-quality services.
  • Drive continuous improvement and share lessons learned with respect to the quality and cost of mobile equipment, housekeeping and roads and grounds, and all maintenance activities. Drive strategic and analytical planning to optimize facility service agreements and on-demand activities.
  • Support and drive successful planning and execution of the General Motors Workplace Safety System and GM Global Safety Standards, including but not limited to: safety observation tours, employee safety concerns, incident investigation, management of change, and full compliance to the General Motors Safety Contract Management program.
  • Support and drive successful planning and execution of all Global Manufacturing System principles and elements.
  • Identify, communicate, and manage opportunities to support business plan objectives
  • Administer budgets and project funding.
  • Business plan preparation and coordination of Sustainable Workplaces objectives with the plant leadership. Update/monitor performance measurements.
  • Leverage resources throughout the Sustainable Workplaces organization as necessary.
  • Work with SW Engineering to develop scope of work and coordinate management of PDPM projects at the site level.
  • Promote safe work practices as the highest priority and implement objectives for ergonomics, and health/safety.
  • Empower employees to continuously improve their work and support them by eliminating and managing constraints.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships and integrity with employees, union, management, and supplier community.
  • Foster continuous improvements in all aspects of the business
  • Support and assist in the successful execution of GM sponsored programs including but not limited to suggestion programs, recognition, special events, tours, and community outreach.
  • Adhere and comply to all internal control policies including but not limited to training, access control, and onboarding and off boarding procedures.
  • Communicate with the site personnel and corporate staff to ensure understanding and support of operational metrics.
  • Interface with UAW and comply with the local and national labor agreements.
  • Attend and participate in plant, regional, and central meetings.
  • Guide, train, support and direct the activities of 3rd party service agreement employees.
  • Conduct and/or arrange required training for hourly and salaried personnel.
  • Interface with GM Audit Services and Legal Staff, as required.
  • Maintain open communication with corporate facilities support staff.
