Job Description
Summary
The Facilities Supervisor I is mainly focused on service deliveries to
internal customers, the daily maintenance of AeroVironment's facilities and
preventive maintenance of the company's capital equipment & infrastructure
including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, automobiles and general construction.
Manages a staff of personnel responsible for the technical and general
facility maintenance of the site
Position Responsibilities
Provides 24/7 on-call support for all facility matters; Provides direction
to facilities staff on a day-by-day basis
Work with Facilities Manager to meet goals of space utilization and create
effective work environments. Ensures monthly and yearly budget goals are
on track
Advises on capital needs and manage capital expenditures
Works with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with construction
codes, safety orders, environmental impact, OSHA and utility services
Manage the Facilities Work Order process supporting the local operations
Works with Safety Manager, insurance representatives, safety consultants,
and site managers to analyze local concerns such as hazardous conditions
and safe work practices
Performs local audits and inspections to ensure corporate safety
compliance on a monthly basis
Responsible for implementing local Emergency Preparedness guidelines
consistent with company standards and maintaining safety equipment and
supplies in support of the facility
Conducts risk assessments to ensure proper business controls are in place.
Works with Security Department to evaluate and maintain physical security
Actively role models a personal commitment to safety and shop safety
practices
Supervises department employees and may plan and direct work assignments,
measure results and initiate personnel action as necessary. Mentors and
develops personnel both technically and professionally in a customer
service driven environment. Conduct annual employee performance and
development evaluations
Works on issues of limited scope. Follows established practices and
procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be
readily obtained. Monitors daily operations of unit or sub-unit

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent
Must have a minimum of 5 - 7 years' experience in a Facilities department
role is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and
experience
2 to 5 years of successfully leading a group of people in order to achieve
tasks, goals and schedules
Has demonstrated customer service skills, experience with budgets and
managing expenses, responsible for purchase requests, hands-on experience
in maintenance work such as electrical, painting, plumbing, carpentry and
roofing repairs
Has worked with a team to solicit input from departmental staff and fellow
employees to maintain a healthy efficient team environment
Can plan, organize and schedule the department's activities and maintain
detailed records
Strong proficiency in the use of hand tools and machinery related to
Facilities Maintenance
Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel
and Outlook)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Working knowledge of common building repairs such as plumbing, light
carpentry, painting, electrical, fabrication, etc.
Valid California driver's license with clean driving record
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
Vocational training is preferred
Forklift certification is preferred
Ability to manage and coordinate outside vendors activities, goals and
schedules
Track record of following projects from inception to completion
Able to understand AV's purchasing policies and work within our current
list of vendors.
Demonstrates competency in evaluating and approving new vendors to meet
business needs
Ability to read blueprints including, but not limited to, electrical
schematics/diagrams
Perform standard plumbing repairs and the ability to utilize judgment in
scheduling repairs and installations
Responsible for knowing and understanding local building codes and
regulations in building trades
Has effective leadership, problem-solving, analytical and interpersonal
skills
Focuses on teamwork, collaboration and puts the success of the team above
one's own interests
Physical Demands
Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment (Constant)
Ability to lift and move objects of varying sizes and shapes up to 50 lbs.

Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and
fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequently)
