The Role:

We are looking for a self-driven individual with GD&T experience (creating and interpreting) as well as a desire to support the Engineering Team with Fastener and Materials Engineering questions.

Your main responsibility will be the definition of GD&T criteria for vehicle components and sub-systems. You will also assist suppliers understand and utilize GD&T to set up part qualification systems as needed. Ensuring high quality designs will entail utilizing your knowledge of engineering tools and processes to assist the DRE's in their development of components and sub- systems.

At this level you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy and broadcasting these strategies to the broader Engineering Team. As a fully- qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis on future products.

  • You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program work with perfection.

  • Resolve highly sophisticated technical issues and conduct advanced research.

  • Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

  • Be skilled and proficient with the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Rely mostly on extensive personal experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Perform multiple tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • This position requires experience in automotive component design and knowledge of various low-volume manufacturing processes. Candidates for this position will need very little ramp up time and be able to contribute immediately to the program! Meeting and exceeding program breakthroughs is critical from the beginning!

    Additional Description

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 5+ of experience working in an engineering discipline

  • Minimum 3 years of component and sub-system GD&T design/release

  • Knowledge of high and low build volume processes

  • GD&T knowledge as it pertains to developing part inspection criteria

  • GD&T understanding of how variation affects the manufacturability of mating components

  • Build process trouble shooting experience

  • Excellent collaboration skills with others within and outside of their direct organization

  • Ability to work professionally with suppliers and vendors directly

  • Demonstrated ability to solve design/manufacturing issues quickly as part of a multi-functional team.

  • Run efficient meetings using the Global Product Group guidelines

  • Resolve engineering issues, present at multi-functional meetings and track to implementation

  • GM DFSS Black Belt Certification

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • Experience as a military contractor

  • Vehicle launch experience

  • General knowledge of cost drivers within the material forming space

  • Military experience

  • Basic Materials Engineering knowledge that can grow into a Subject Matter Expert level

  • Ability and willingness to learn and be responsible for fastener definition and be responsible for creating a GM Defense fastener Best Practice
