We are seeking a Design Manager for Branded Color Materials and Finish to manage a team of creative CMF Designers inspiring them to create, develop and propose exciting, brand appropriate aesthetic proposals for GM vehicles globally. You will collaboratively work to set a vision, branded strategy and directs the creativity for Color & Trim solutions. CMF solution sets are applied to both interior and exterior of a vehicle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Highly proficient ability to apply creative judgment, make appropriate brand decisions and manage/guide - original, innovative, fresh 2D and 3D CMF designs appropriate to program requirements by working as part of a team with Design Leadership, cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers
  • Manages CMF design and guides others to create texture, color, material and soft -trim designs into cohesive well resolved design, brand appropriate solutions
  • Revise, refine and track CMF design proposals to GVDP 5.6 and 7.0 timing.
  • Prepare documentation, presentations and prototypes to program timing and communicating as required
  • Understands brand, global market, competition and customer requirements
  • Keeps abreast of trend, material and technology research. Recommends needs and developments as appropriate
  • Proposes and maintains branded material strategy
  • Escalate and resolve issues as appropriate for program execution and or brand/strategy integrity
  • Prepares and supports project budgets, timelines and resource plans
  • Develops and fosters the growth of direct reports

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven creativity and design judgment
  • Highly proficient technical and creative capability in CMF
  • Highly proficient understanding of manufacturing processes and limitations relative to CMF
  • Understands the visual cues and nuances between the GM portfolio of brands
  • Problem solver
  • Identifies potential problems and has very good analytical ability
  • Thinks strategically and navigates effectively through complex situations
  • Outstanding presentation skills to large groups
  • Needs little guidance and takes direction from leadership
  • Takes initiative, is proactive and composed under pressure
  • Supports leadership and brand direction
  • PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must demonstrate sound design judgment and process as it relates to CMF
  • EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Minimum 5+ years CMF or equivalent experience
  • Sound understanding in tracking deliverables to a production timeline
  • Bachelors Degree in: Industrial Design, Product Design, Transportation Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, or related field
