This is a global role with functional reports from Safety Professionals in the different regions of GM. The individual in this role supports all GM locations globally and owns the System dimension of the GWS strategy.

The WSS Manager is a global role with functional reports from Safety Professionals in the different regions of GM. This Role reports directly to the Executive Director of Global Workplace Safety Operations.

GM's WSS Global Manager leads the design, implementation, and execution of WSS processes across the organization, including (1) Annual program reviews and updates for continuous improvement (2), Validation of site level achievement of WSS status (3) Coaching, mentoring, and supporting site level implementation of the WSS and (4) Maintaining processes that align with globally recognized standards for occupational safety and health.

CUSTOMERS, STAKEHOLDERS AND EXPECTATIONS:

Customers: Operational Safety Leaders, Manufacturing Operations Leaders, Site Champions, Manufacturing Engineering Centers, Site Leaders, Sustainable Workplaces, Global Environmental, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain and Global Workplace Safety Leadership.

Stakeholders: Global Manufacturing Engineering, Sustainable Workplaces, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, Global Manufacturing System, GM Legal, Union Leadership, Global Workplace Safety.

Expectations: (1) Collaboration with various customers and stakeholders in the successful execution of the WSS components (2) Provide day to day oversight of the design, continued improvement and management of the WSS. (3) Provide solid documentation of the WSS and manage metrics that allow performance and quality to be tracked over time (4) Manage relationships with Champions from all Stakeholders (5) Lead site level validation of WSS implementation status (6) Lead a global group of safety professionals with representatives in every Region where GM operates.

Additional Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree (Safety or Engineering) with 5+ years of leadership roles in Workplace Safety or Industrial Hygiene position or Manufacturing Equivalent.
  • Post Graduate studies in Safety or Related Engineering is desirable.
  • Safety Certifications are desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership in complex Workplace Safety and manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in the areas of building talent, team collaboration, decisive, innovative, inspirational, manage change and visionary.
  • Demonstrated Leadership with a Global Vision and Multi-Cultural experiences
  • Broad, diverse global career experience in businesses and operations
  • Leadership competencies and the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and across the globe while being mindful of cultural differences
  • Understanding and able to interpret international, national and local standards and regulatory requirements relevant to job duties
  • Successful experience in developing and implementing a Safety Management System or other closely related management system
