Are you a tech savvy problem solver with a flair for project management, and the skillset to break down complex tasks into workable action plans? Do you have knowledge in automotive engineering and manufacturing, visualization, 3D modeling, simulation or program management? You may have an opportunity to work as Immersive Project Manager – ME/MO in one of GM's newest and most exciting enterprise teams - Immersive Technologies. Immersive technology encompasses multiple capabilities like 3D data pipeline, XR (Virtual, Augmented, Mixed Reality solutions), and high-end real-time 3D visualization.

As the Immersive Project Manager ( IPM ), you will be responsible for the ‘end to end' execution of multiple projects across the digital space. The IPM will ensure the successful execution of projects using standards, procedures, accountability, efficient allocation of resources, and continuous improvement to bring GM forward in the digital world.

The Immersive Project Manager is assigned at the start of new projects, to work alongside the Immersive Innovation Managers . Leveraging the technical expertise of the Innovation Managers and the project core team, the IPM lays down a solid foundation and framework, outlining the execution steps from start to finish. From here, the IPM will use their technical & communication skills to work across multiple teams to help achieve one common goal.

These immersive projects will cater to the needs of the Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Operations (ME/MO) teams within GM. The immersive Project Portfolio comprises of small, medium, large, and extra large and complex technical projects, delivering cutting edge technologies and new business capabilities to support our goal of 100% Virtual by 2025.

This position requires an employee to be onsite 3-5 times per week.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that projects are completed on time and meets all business and system requirements
  • Working with Immersive Innovation Manager , conducts brainstorming workshops with the Project Core Team during the ‘idea generation phase'
  • Demonstrate high technical understanding to help carry ideas, group to group.
  • Help teams understand the vision and align them to requirements.
  • Generates project timing plans, identifying critical milestones, assigns resources and work breakdown structure for projects
  • Conducts Kick-off meetings, regular project review meetings, and drives accountability on action items and target dates
  • Ensures that the project scope as defined by the Immersive Innovation Manager , is well documented and managed properly throughout the delivery cycle of the project
  • Communicates project status, progress on deliverables, and risks/issues to stakeholders and leadership in a timely manner
  • Working with the core team, facilitates the Project Gate Reviews and ensures seamless transition of responsibility as project transitions from one phase to another
  • Identifies and resolves issues/conflicts within the project team and provides early feedback to project teams, to take proactive measures to resolve the issues
  • For all major projects requiring ‘software development', the IPM will work with the IT Project Manager to accomplish the above tasks
  • Support and communicate on-site and remotely with the global user base across various time zones (North America, South America, and Asia).
  • Demonstrate outstanding people management skills, including ability to work in a team and mentor individuals

    Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or an equivalent experience/training required
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical projects at a system/vehicle level
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a highly ambiguous environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work within a team
  • Open-minded, optimistic, and approachable.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and negotiate effectively with others to meet mutual goals.
  • Proven capability leading multidisciplinary teams to complete projects on- time within allocated budget constraints.
  • Preferred Skill Set / Experience

  • PMP certification preferred
  • Understanding of General Motors' Global Vehicle Development Process from concept to launch, and how immersive technologies can transform the VDP with speed & quality
  • Practical experience with requirements and test case development
  • Experience interacting with business customers and managing expectations
  • Experience in Automotive Manufacturing Engineering or Manufacturing
  • Exposure to immersive technologies
