Industrial Engineer

On-site: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis

The Role:

The Industrial Engineer will work directly with production in implementing lean manufacturing systems. They will analyze throughput data to help departments improve performance. They will be responsible for handling standardized work for future and current products alongside the core team and help to launch extraordinary products. In steady state, they will drive continuous improvement projects.

What You'll Do: The main purpose of the Industrial Engineer is to work to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, person-hours, machine time, energy and other resources that do not generate value. The position will develop, recommend, and implement changes which will result in the improvement of manufacturing processes and or product quality. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to your success at General Motors among the responsibilities listed below:

Implement common Industrial Engineering business practices and processes

Design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements with high integrity

Maintain accurate time studies through motion analysis and application of standard time data

Maintain accurate routings of parts to their assembly location

Maintain accurate workstation layouts using computer aided drafting software (AutoCAD)

Drive Continuous Improvement efforts in assigned area through elimination of waste

Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements in assigned area

Support change management projects by developing line balance plans and participating in production trials

Reduce total cost by improving productivity metrics related to operator work loading and value-added percent

Participate in lean manufacturing through implementation of GM's Global Manufacturing System

Support implementation and training for standardized work development

Become a coach and teacher of lean manufacturing principles to the production floor team members

Drive problem solving efforts

Work collaboratively as one team with all levels of the organization

Develop relationships with Production department and related personnel

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience

2+ years experience working in manufacturing with a background in Continuous Improvement

Previous experience in documentation of Standardized Work procedures

Previous experience in implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts

Knowledge of time study and motion analysis

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Knowledge of human factors engineering / ergonomic analysis

Working knowledge of computer aided drafting tools (AutoCAD / SolidWorks / Line Designer)

Ability to adapt to different interpersonal styles and communication methods

Previous experience with project management and time management

Previous experience working in a Union Environment or Bargaining Unit
