Summary

The Aeromechanical Engineering Manager is an experienced individual within the aerospace, technology, or related industry with extensive knowledge performing their function in a fast-paced organization. As a member of the Product Development Engineering management team, participates in executing the overall strategic technology and product roadmap that will drive the business growth in a very competitive market space. The Aeromechanical Engineering Manager will manage the design and development of new Unmanned Aircraft System products as well as product changes and enhancements. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a functional organization that has the capabilities and capacities to meet business needs; including budget planning, staffing, training, performance evaluation and career development.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Aeromechanical engineers, including budget planning, staffing, training, performance management and career development.
  • Lead engineering team through design, analysis, prototype, integration, troubleshooting, and verification and assist in new product launch to production.
  • Improve product design/development processes by employing lessons learned and best practices such as modelling and simulation, design reviews, design outsourcing, tolerance analysis, DFMEA/PFMEA, 6-sigma/lean product development, DFX, and customer feedbacks.
  • Manage the design and development of new Unmanned Aircraft System products, subsystems, as well as product changes and enhancements.
  • Evaluates results of aeromechanical design, analysis, and test to assure accomplishment of technical objectives. Directs the introduction of new designs to the manufacturing organization.
  • Executes on business objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals and provides guidance to subordinates with the latitude of established company policies
  • Frequently interacts with subordinates, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions, suppliers, or customers and the company
  • Ensures that proper documentation, such as test specifications and procedures, is provided to the appropriate functional area
  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of business trends
  • Acts as advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical issues. Provides mentorship and leadership to aeromechanical engineers

  • Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • 10 years of related aeromechanical and/or mechanical engineering functional management experience leading large team of direct reports in fast-paced, dynamic product design and development environments for products used across multiple industries.
  • 5 years of hands-on HW product design experience and 5+ years of mfg. engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Broad technical knowledge and experience to understand and evaluate design and development activity across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Managing large team of direct reports in multiple locations
  • Recruiting, hiring, on boarding, mentoring, coaching new employees
  • Conduct regular employee performance reviews. Provide performance improvement and career development feedback and implement necessary disciplinary actions as needed
  • Familiarity with composite, injection molded plastic, die casting, machining, and PCBA/connector/cable assembly design, tooling, fabrication, and assembly preferred
  • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and success to deliver products that meet requirements on time and on budget
  • Proven and demonstrated experience with full product development life cycle from concept to production with proven track-record of launching new products to production
  • Proven and demonstrated execution of product development methods and best practices
  • Ability to analyze the assigned project, break down work into functional disciplines and/or subsystems and create design/develop plans
  • Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Master's degree is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in leading integrated product teams
  • Strong organization, facilitation, and negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with aerospace military/defense contracting environment highly desirable
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance/US citizenship preferred
  • Physical Demands

  • Occasionally may be required to travel within the Continental U.S.
  • Ability to work in an office and R&D environment (Constant)
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)
  • The salary range for this role is:

    $115,360 - $173,040
