Job Description

Summary

The Flight Standardization Manager reports directly to the Director of Flight Operations. This position is responsible for all Flight and Training Standardization and the design and development of all AeroVironment SUAS training materials.

Duties

  • Manages/supervises the Flight Standardization Section
  • Maintains the Master Trainer Training Program
  • Responsible for the design and development of DOD service compliant Training Programs for current and future SUAS
  • Maintains currency and updates of all SUAS training programs
  • Monitor all SUAS training to ensure Standardization
  • Ensure standardization of instruction where appropriate across the spectrum of all courses
  • Ensure Standardization with courses of like systems and different instructors
  • Conducts site survey for future training locations. Coordinates with host base personnel for logistical and training support
  • Ensures training area is sufficient to accommodate SUAS Operator Training Course
  • Advises Air Traffic Control and Range Control personnel on SUAS operations
  • Will work closely with logistics and product line management to review flight test and Customer feedback for the express purpose of identifying preventative and corrective actions that will lead to a better product
  • Exercises supervision in terms of costs, methods, and staffing. Mentors and provides guidance to staff
  • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Experience

  • At least 10 years of military experience, or equivalent training experience in an aircraft or aerospace manufacturing firm
  • Prior military instructor/Special Operations experience highly desirable: Prefer Special Forces, SEAL, Special Tactics, Ranger, Force Recon, Scout, Forward Observer, TACP, or Aviation backgrounds
  • Shall have a solid understanding of military tactics, operations, GPS and Navigation utilizing map and compass
  • Education

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required; a Bachelor's degree is desirable
  • Additional Requirements

  • Must have outstanding Leadership, Managerial and Organizational skills, and should have excellent presentation inter-personal skills
  • Must have strong analytical skills with which to solve various degrees of complex problems
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Should have outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead, train and mentor staff
  • Must be able to successfully pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certification (part 107)
  • Must have the ability to work with little or no supervision and exercise independent judgment on a regular basis.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, blueprint or sketches.
  • Must maintain a high level of initiative and exercise strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to pass and maintain a medical and dental exam for deployments
  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties
  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products
  • Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company

  • Physical Demands

  • Ability to work outdoors at customer sites in all weather conditions (Frequent)
  • Must be able to launch AeroVironment's UAS IAW user manuals
  • Should be capable of lifting up to 70 pounds as well as objects of varying sizes for shipment to & set up at various customer training sites (Frequent)
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard and flight control systems (Frequent)
  • Special Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must have the capability to obtain a US passport
  • Must have held, or be eligible to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Will be required to travel within and outside the Continental US
  • Be able to acquire a Class 2 Aviation Medical
  • The salary range for this role is:

    $130,560 - $195,840
