Summary

The HAPS Operations Manager is responsible for the HAPS maintenance, test and manufacturing facilities, providing support to engineers and maintainers, during all phases of aircraft system design, prototyping, manufacture, build, repair, test, assembly / disassembly, shipping / receiving, and flight readiness. The Operations manager ensures ground safety, product quality, and delivery of scheduled requirements for composite fabrication, composite & mechanical subassemblies, and final integration and testing of systems. The Operations Manager works closely with the other functional leaders and Program Managers to execute key objectives and programs to meet schedules and budgets. This role will be responsible for tactical leadership of department engineers and technicians and help guide the success of engineering and manufacturing efforts.

Summary

The HAPS Operations Manager is responsible for the HAPS maintenance, test and manufacturing facilities, providing support to engineers and maintainers, during all phases of aircraft system design, prototyping, manufacture, build, repair, test, assembly / disassembly, shipping / receiving, and flight readiness. The Operations manager ensures ground safety, product quality, and delivery of scheduled requirements for composite fabrication, composite & mechanical subassemblies, and final integration and testing of systems. The Operations Manager works closely with the other functional leaders and Program Managers to execute key objectives and programs to meet schedules and budgets. This role will be responsible for tactical leadership of department engineers and technicians and help guide the success of engineering and manufacturing efforts.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages and performs all work in a manner that is consistent with the company's safety and quality systems, and manufacturing practices, which includes maintaining a clean and orderly production area at all times

  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and manages resources to meet schedules and goals.

  • Plans and administers procedures and may make budgetary recommendations

  • Develops schedules and manpower requirements for assigned areas and selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function

  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, vendors, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, and other company divisions or units

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s)

  • Follows, promotes and enforces the company's safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures and assists with safety investigations and corrective actions related to safety hazards and/or incidents

  • Coordinates the HAPS facilities in conjunction with the flight test team to prepare for all levels of ground and aircraft system testing

  • Manages the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles, applying Six Sigma methodology to achieve continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and lead time reduction

  • Other duties as required

  • Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):

  • BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, or similar field or equivalent experience as an Engineer in these fields required (Advanced degree preferred)

  • 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Test Engineering or similar field in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries

  • 3+ years in a leadership role

  • Experience with ISO 9001 / AS9100D system and required documentation

  • Experienced in Manufacturing Requirements Planning processes and software

  • Experience in low to mid volume complex discrete manufacturing

  • Experience in tactical decision making in a high paced environment

  • Experience working new product introduction (NPI)

  • Specific experience with printed circuit board assembly, electro- mechanical assembly, calibration and testing processes

  • Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies:

  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical manufacturing, drawings, procedures and Bill of Materials

  • Experience in Test and Calibration equipment software and hardware

  • Lean Six Sigma manufacturing implementation or use of Lean tools

  • Has the ability to think beyond the immediate situation, explore multiple potential paths, and adapt decision-making style based on the situational circumstances

  • Encourages people to deliver organizational goals, while also delivering value back to employees

  • Physical Demands:

  • Requires manual dexterity and ability to effectively use machining tools, both manual and automated

  • Ability to move and/or carry heavy equipment

  • Ability to meet California laws governing the acceptable use of a respirator

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds as well as objects of varying sizes and shapes for setups and assemblies for various internal customers

  • The ability to access elevated aircraft areas via ladders, lift trucks, boom lifts and other devices

  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and/or telephone keyboard

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment

  • The salary range for this role is:

    $109,824 - $164,736
