Our diverse team of engineers and machinists play a crucial role in transforming our facilities through implementing the adoption of ground-breaking technologies.

Responsibilities and Description:

Responsible for the direct leadership of a group of manufacturing engineers, designers, and maintenance personnel for pre-production operations (PPO) similar to an automotive assembly plant and a propulsion systems (i.e., engine, transmission, and/or electric drive unit) plant. PPO supports the product development process overseeing the ME execution of vehicle, engine, transmission, and electric drive unit prototype builds in the alpha, beta and gamma phases. Manufacturing operations include stamping, welding, painting, vehicle assembly, as well as powertrain component manufacturing and assembly. Group size is approximately 37 engineers, 6 designers, 7 supervisors of hourly trades, and approximately 70 hourly maintenance trades persons. Operations take place on two shifts and multiple sites. Additionally, this group will support GMS and BDP initiatives and provide SME support in basket-weave audits as well as safety initiatives and observation tours.

  • Long term planning – NPP – plan for the needs of the PPO business relative to equipment, process, systems, and technical support. Design, engineer, and install equipment and systems to meet identified needs
  • Strategic agility & future vision – anticipate future business needs – manage the master layout, equipment portfolio, and technology implementation to have the manufacturing shops ready for new programs as they arrive
  • The role includes engagement with the following personnel & functions:

  • Coordination and collaboration with central/corporate ME functions and product program teams to accomplish their objectives as they relate to implementation of equipment, processes, and products in the manufacturing plants. Set-up PPO to facilitate try-out and development of same in support of GM manufacturing sites
  • Direct engagement with Product Engineering and program team leadership (e.g. Assistant Chief Engineers, DSEs)
  • Direct engagement with the Process Manufacturing and Assembly EGMs and Program Execution Managers
  • Direct leadership of a third-party Tool Commodity Manager (TCM)

    Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree, recommended in Engineering
  • 10+ years of Manufacturing Engineering Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role
  • High Level of technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop direct reports
  • Have a well-developed mechanical and electrical understanding of manufacturing equipment, processes, and systems, with practical application to support the entire PPO organization and all shops relative to achievement of overall level one business plan objectives to include safety, people, quality, responsiveness, cost, and environment
  • Knowledge of Product/Process Design and the Manufacturing Interface
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capability of driving results, as well as strategic agility & urgency
  • Skills and Qualifications Preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Demonstrated applications of plant floor and product design improvements for manufacturing
  • Multiple different ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team-based achievements
  • Working knowledge of Controls Engineering
  • Global Exposure working with others from other regions to complete projects
  • Cross-Functional assignment in another ME Center
  • Plant job assignments for 2-3 years, preferably in GPS
  • Launch knowledge
