Description

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer role will be supporting plantwide Manufacturing Operations in the Central Quality Engineering group. The MQE will support existing Automotive Manufacturing of Truck, SUV, and Corvette engine components. There will be frequent use of laboratory equipment and involvement with manufacturing processes. The MQE role is highly technical and will require attention to detail, good follow-up communication, and interaction with others.

Job description

Central focus to the organization regarding quality for Global Propulsion System (GPS) across the entire development process, through manufacturing, and into the field. Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform early issue identification, tracking and resolution to ensure segment leadership.
  • Provide clear and timely communication to Quality management relative to quality issues.
  • Work with the product team to identify and collect critical status updates for Quality reviews.
  • Facilitate Quality Review meetings and integrity of presentation materials.
  • Support Quality Deep Dives / Sector Reviews / Quality Councils.
  • Ability to mentor, instruct and audit elements of GM Quality Manual and GMS BIQ Principle and Elements, ISO and IATF standards. Ensure plant process aligned with changing corporate Quality Requirements.
  • Recommend innovation solutions to global quality requirement documentation structure.
  • Facilitate Quality System Certification Process – (i.e. ISO 9000 / IATF 16949)
  • Be responsible for the QMS Audit Program / 3 Year Review Process / Plant Internal Audits
  • Provide statistical analysis of manufacturing process data and participate in root cause analysis & corrective actions
  • Lead and support Continuous Improvement (Scrap reduction, efficiency improvement, etc.) and mentor floor-level Problem Solving activities
  • Perform contamination testing
  • Verify compliance to quality requirements and procedures

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to manipulate, visualize, understand, and communicate data
  • Ability to safely operate laboratory equipment
  • Ability to provide weekend/holiday/vacation support as needed
  • Ability to work any shift as needed
  • Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience with Metals, Plastics, Rubber
  • Knowledge of common problem-solving methodologies (Six Sigma, Red X, Shainin, etc.)
  • Microsoft Excel Intermediate
  • Microsoft Power BI
  • Minitab – Intermediate or Advanced Skills
  • Experience with Lab Equipment – X-Ray, FTIR, SEM, Metallograph, X-Ray Fischerscope, Particle Analyzer, Instron, Microscope
  • Prior experience in Quality in a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of ISO/IATF
