The General Motors Global Innovation team's mission is to: 1) identify, grow, and nurture future businesses that present growth and transformative opportunities for General Motors; and 2) collaborate cross-functionally to grow new start up business opportunities, enable and foster innovation programs and initiatives across the company. We are working to enter new markets, attract new customers and diversify revenue streams for GM. To support both these areas, we are seeking someone who has a strong strategic marketing background, thrives in a changing environment, prioritizes the customer, and seeks out possibilities.

The Team & Role:

As innovation takes place across GM, there is an opportunity to amplify and accelerate our efforts by bringing teams, ideas, and learnings together and instilling marketing rigor and expertise to a startup culture.

We are looking for an experienced Marketer on the Global Innovation Marketing team. In this role, you will be responsible for marketing/sales enablement initiatives across Global Innovation startup businesses with a focus on Accident Assistant Concierge, ePowered Connectivity, disruptive tech as well as other innovation needs across General Motors as Global Innovation looks to support.

You will work across a small innovation team to develop, test and size businesses taking them from an idea to reality at scale. The Marketing Lead needs to be a creative problem solver, lateral thinker, possess a strong set of marketing/sales skills including empathy research, journey mapping, brand strategy/positioning, go-to-market planning/execution, data analysis/reporting, sales channel & customer acquisition.

This is an exciting, high impact role with the unique opportunity to create a new view into the work aligned with GM's purpose and accelerating GM's vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.

The Marketing Lead will lead in the development and execution marketing/sales strategies, be agile in decision-making, can formulate a strong POV, activate and adjust plans strategically in a changing environment.

A successful candidate will demonstrate a can-do mentality with the ability to develop and establish innovative, strategically sound, and effective marketing/sales enablement initiatives in a fast-paced atmosphere with tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, propose, and execute marketing strategies & solutions with focus around a broad range of functions, businesses, and organizational units
  • Drive high level concepting, tactical program ideation and sharp articulations for an ever-changing variety of outputs
  • Manage multiple sales & marketing efforts simultaneously
  • Support marketing needs of a sales organization through the development of sales enablement material and tools
  • Leverage and implement best practices from experience, network, and other GM Sales & Marketing teams
  • Lead market research and analyze data to gain marketing insights and uncover key consumer insights and opportunities.
  • Understand customer needs, document customer journeys, identify pain points and moments that matter to ensure each innovation initiative delivers an exceptional customer experience
  • Provide thought leadership and help shape impactful product & marketing innovation
  • Clearly and succinctly present concepts and explain findings to stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present presentations to various levels of leadership
  • Create and uphold brand standards across all programs

    Required :

  • Solid career progression in marketing or advertising with refined skills in concept development, marketing strategy & execution, go-to-market planning & execution as well as a foundation in customer experience.
  • Experience in a professional marketing organization, marketing; tech, connectivity, software, app-dev, energy, utility verticals is a plus.
  • Ability to understand the market, develop unique consumer insights and translate them into detailed and concrete marketing strategies.
  • Experience working within a startup environment (strongly preferred).
  • Experience in strategic partnerships with multiple organizations and outside partners.
  • The skills to tell a synthesized and engaging story based on insights and analyses. Build short, clear PowerPoint decks and present quickly and clearly to key decision-makers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, as well as strong planning, time management and organizational proficiencies.
  • Proven record of experience developing, implementing, managing, and measuring brand communication strategies and plans.
  • Entrepreneurial drive / demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate across different departments and backgrounds, strong and clear communication skills.
  • Lateral problem-solving skills. Comfortable with ambiguity. Able to identify possible solutions outside of the obvious marketing/sales space.
  • Passion for innovation and intrigued by “What-if”.
