We at Volocopter are the pioneers of electric air taxis, i.e. aircraft that
take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring urban air mobility to life,
by getting air taxis and drones off the gorund in a way that complements
current transportation options in megacities across the globe. Our aim is to
offer affordable on-demand air taxi services that fly people to their
destination quickly and safely. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted
flight of a purely electric multicopter and have since showcased numerous
public flights with our full-scale VoloCity aircrafts (www. volocopter.com).
Your crew during this flight:
Within a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary team you will develop and refine
material and process requirements as well as define and develop materials and
processing specifications, material/joint test plans and their associated
reports.
Your mission during this flight:
As the Material & Process Engineer, your mission is to ensure the material
selection comply with the requirements and pass the certification process.
You will provide technical expertise to ensure the company goals for
successful material selection activities of the VoloCity are achieved
You manage material selection activities with respect to aircraft
requirements for the airframe structure and different aircraft systems
You generate all material level test plans (characterization, screening,
qualification) covering different test properties and conditions in
accordance with aircraft requirements, govern entire test campaigns by
communicating panel & specimen manufacturing, specimen conditioning and
test execution
You review test plans, process specifications, part drawings and other
documents from M&P point of view to ensure compliance with design
requirements
You review test data and undertake post-testing activities including test
report generation, material & design allowable calculations, equivalency
determinations and failure mode analysis
You conduct precise and focused tradeoffs when it comes to making material
selection decisions, collecting the input requirements, to provide the
best design outputs, i.e. that certification requirements are met while
still optimizing for manufacturability and operability-wise, taking cost
and lead times into account
You considering corrosion as a major parameter and act in accordance with
corrosion prevention guideline documentation during material selection
activities
You conduct technical meetings with suppliers in order to optimize
material selection in accordance with aircraft requirements
You provide technical guidance in the development of new materials,
processes and methods
You assist in the engineering departments with non-conformances from the
M&P point of view
