Description

HYBRID WORK LOCATION:

We believe work-life balance is essential to a team member's success and job satisfaction. This is a hybrid role mainly focused in southeast Michigan and primarily located at our Pontiac Engineering Center or one of various manufacturing locations.

OVERVIEW :

General Motors has invested substantial energy and resources in the development of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) propulsion technologies over the last 20 years and is now moving towards larger scale manufacturing concepts supporting heavy duty applications. The Fuel Cell manufacturing team is looking for a talented and self-driven individual to help drive the execution of these programs which are part of GM's Zero-Zero- Zero initiatives.

The primary responsibility of the fuel cell process engineer is to “get the process right” by delivering processes and equipment that support flawless build events through development of new manufacturing processes, equipment, and tooling. Work is performed in a collaborative environment where you will have daily interaction with suppliers, OEMs, product engineering, plant engineering, and other manufacturing engineers. The selected candidate will be instrumental in implementation of laser cutting technologies, faster than five second repeating automation generating over 10 million individual cells per year, and development of novel stack compression and leak testing methodologies amongst others.

You will be working in a centralized engineering center and a plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity, initiative, and a high level of independent judgement is exercised.

If you are innovative, creative, enjoy working with the latest technologies, and thrive in a fast paced team oriented environment here is your chance to make a career of it.

Responsible for supporting activities that may include :

  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools for high speed cell automation

  • Performing root cause analysis, developing solutions, and implementing corrective action plans on production floors
  • Leading continuous improvement engineering activities
  • Support implementation of GM's safety specifications and equipment safety reviews
  • Maintaining crucial standardized documentation such as work instructions (JES/TIS), process flow diagrams, failure mode effect analysis, and process control plans
  • Development of in-house processes and tooling to improve quality and efficiency
  • Available for 10-30% travel (required for activities supporting our manufacturing plants or working with our suppliers)
  • Additional Description

    REQUIRED :

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering related to a production environment
  • Proven understanding of high volume manufacturing and assembly processes
