The Role
We are seeking a Motorsports Aerodynamics Thermal Engineer to join a multi- disciplined team of engineers and technicians for testing, developing, and optimizing the performance of complete race vehicles. Working with GM Key Partner teams to ensure they are racing the highest performing vehicles possible while building and cultivating close relationships with GM Motorsports colleagues, GM production engineers, and GM supported race teams is core to this role. You will work with the motorsports team to develop the aero thermal toolchain for motorsports and high-performance vehicle programs.

What You'll Do
Implement physics-based 1D thermal simulation solutions with emphasis on flexibility of fidelities and re-usability, using modular and parametric modeling concepts
Develop cooling and packaging solutions for motorsport and high- performance vehicle programs
Perform studies on target tradeoffs including aerodynamics, thermal, vehicle dynamics, tires, powertrain, batteries, climate etc.
Design and execute physical experiments of cooling systems at component, system, and vehicle level
Support full car and subsystem models for use in XiL simulations
Identify performance enhancement opportunities with established motorsport programs in the aero thermal subject area
Communicate and cooperate cross functionally to refine vehicle design or setup parameters
Work with GM production and motorsports engineers to define aero thermal integration requirements for optimization of complete race and high- performance production variants
Apply marginal gains mindset to best practices and produce continuous performance improvement throughout the development cycle
Enable world-class engineering tools/methods technology transfer between motorsport and production vehicle development

Additional DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related subject with coursework in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics
5+ years post-graduate aero-thermal development experience in motorsports or production car environments
Experience with 1D thermal simulation at either component, system, or vehicle level, and using physical test results to calibrate simulation model
Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment, with a talent for organization, collaboration, and communication
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Expert understanding of GT-SUITE Flow and Thermal module including physics theory, solver numerical methods and process automation
Familiarity with AMCA chamber, calorimeter and CWT testing, measurement techniques and data systems
PhD in mechanical, thermodynamics, or aerospace/aeronautical engineering
Experience with the architecture and thermal control development of BEV and hybrid systems
