Hybrid - Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week
The OEM On-Hwy Application Engineering role is to support GM Power Solutions outside customers within the on-highway segment. Represents the voice of the customer throughout the GM organization and resolves any open issues between the customer, GM and third party integrators. Responsible for specifying and balancing technical requirements, definition, execution and evaluation of designs, analysis, development, testing and control of major engineering projects. A substantial amount of creativity and initiative is involved as well as exercising a high level of independent judgment. Capable of managing very broad or numerous projects with high degree of difficulty. Has in depth knowledge of GM powertrain development, engine calibration, emissions, and certification processes.
Support the engineering relationship between GM, Integrator, and the Customer
Work with external customers to determine vehicle requirements and communicate internally
Support, develop, and maintain customer BOM, SSTS, Math, Mech Drawings by working with GM internal partners (PET, Calibration, Cert, Outside Customer Controls – VEMC, GTO)
Monitor upcoming engineering changes via PowerBi tool, CRB, CAB and communicate as appropriate to Sales, Logistics, program managers, and external customers (via CEA)
Support CEA (change document) generation by providing necessary engineering info to program managers
Support resolution of engineering, quality, logistics, performance, and any open issues between the Customer, third party Integrator and GM
Ensure that customer requests are evaluated in a timely manner and that appropriate action is taken
Manage IP sharing (math and data) with customer through approved methods (e.g., P2P)
Support customer's program Plan Book revisions with appropriate information
Supports, develops, and evaluates engineering designs (including subsystems) and review with appropriate GM functions.
Support the release of parts and subsystems for production
Supports service engineering
Support program hardware/component requirements by procuring through BRT or service if available
Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
Models and fosters GM's desired core values and behaviors
Work to ensure that the Customer requirements are properly represented in GM's functional plans.
Meet with applicable DSEs, DREs, calibration, Certification, and Outside Customer Controls (VMEC) regularly to determine and communicate vehicle requirements
Support annual Delegated Assembly audit
Travel as required to meet with customers at their facilities to review product plans, understand customers' products and operations; attend industry trade shows; participate in product development/evaluation trips and build events.
Stay abreast of engine and control system technology evolution of Global GM automotive applications for potential application as an on-highway offering. Incorporate product technologies and best practices from GM automotive applications for OEM Sales, where appropriate.
Qualifications:
Bachelors in Mechanical or Electrical ( Required)
4-6 years of experience in one of the following fields: Engine calibration, Engine verification, Engine Emission, Dyno Certification, OBDII calibration, or heavy duty (Required)
Outside sales or engineering Experience
Third party integrator experience
Program Management experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated organizational skills
Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
High level of analytical problem solving skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.
Experience in leading projects/programs from concept to production
Established working relationship with GMPT product engineering organizations
