Hybrid - Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week.
The Role
As a Design Release Engineer in the Global Electrification Battery Systems (GEBS) group, you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management. As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems, resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research. You will also have the opportunity to recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures. You will be skilled and proficient with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures relying mostly on extensive personal experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
This role is a PCB Design Release Engineer for the OBCM(On Board Charging Module). Responsible for converter design definition, electrical design, vehicle integration, WCA, benchmarking, and sustaining engineering in production. Required to collaborate with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers as well as vehicle customers in order to solve technical solutions per detailed requirements and standard methodologies. Responsible for technical direction of OBCM for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.
Responsible for execution of OBCM requirements and evaluation of designs where creativity and initiative is involved.
Work collaboratively with and provide technical mentorship to suppliers of power electronics.
Develop engineering designs and generate technical solutions for advanced and production hardware.
Perform Worst Case Analysis to assess design performance and robustness.
Ensure lessons learned comprehended in OBCM SOR & BOD.
Participate in supplier DFMEA reviews to ensure design compliance.
Provide technical support to GM Assembly Design Release Engineer.
Assist in planning design completion dates and complete designs to planned timing.
Write and assess technical reports.
Build and protect intellectual property.
Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products.
Perform component benchmarking and vehicle integration of competition.
Utilize Design for Six Sigma analysis as a decision tool for design trade- off activities and decision making.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
5+ years of electrical circuit design experience.
Solid understanding of converter systems design.
High level of project management skills and presentation skills.
Experience with Bills of Design, Statement of Requirements, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and Design Reviews
Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, electronics, physics and manufacturing methods
Interpersonal skills to work independently and optimally with domestic and international business partners
Ability to work non-standard hours to collaborate with an overseas suppliers
Analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Travel as required (domestic & international)
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
Experience with the following CAD/CAE tools: SABER, MATLAB, SIMULINK simulation tool, SIMPLORER system/circuit simulation tool, Orcad schematic capture, Cadence and P-Spice circuit analysis software.
Experience with GM engineering processes and software.
