The Role
General Motors is looking for Human Resources (HR) and Labor Relations
(LR) professionals who are excited to help lead in the HR space. As a
Personnel Director, you will be responsible for delivery of HR and LR services
at our Jackson Customer Care & Aftersales (CCA) site located in Mississippi
which employs a combined total of approximately 90 people.
In addition to providing daily support on HR and LR activities, you will
provide leadership and direction that supports our General Motors' mission,
culture, and objectives. You will work strategically with assigned functional
business leaders to improve working relationships, build engagement, increase
output, and attract and retain talent. You will also have responsibility for
some site Safety related activities.

What You'll Do
Partner with the Plant Manager in driving GM culture, promoting positive
employee experiences and improving employee engagement
Promote a positive working relationship with the union through consistent
application of local and national agreements
Negotiate and implement local and national agreements
Participate in Joint Leadership Meetings and activities
Ensure adherence to the Grievance Procedure
Provide HR leadership for the site (i.e. talent planning, performance
management, compensation planning, recruiting and selection, etc.)
Ensure compliance to policy and support investigations of employee
concerns
Manage hourly, contract and salaried employment administration
Facilitate training on HR policies, HR/LR procedures and contractual
agreements including the UAW Local and National agreements
Champion assigned Workplace Safety System Elements and administration of
local safety related items
Support People Involvement and implementation of our Global Manufacturing
System (GMS)
Core HR:
Champion projects that support key HR & Center of Expertise (COE)
objectives in function and country.
Partner with Site Leadership and People Leaders in driving GM culture,
promoting positive employee experiences, and improving employee engagement
Participate in regular HRM and Talent Forum discussions with Site
Leadership
Partner with COE to ensure that local policies, procedures, legislations,
collective agreements, and regulations are administered appropriately in
accordance with country and functional direction
Cascade company-wide communications and announcements. Provide complex-
wide communications on HR/LR initiatives, process changes, and
improvements that impact all employees.
Ensure appropriate support to the business in regard Human Capital Plans
implementation.
Support enterprise-initiatives, including Talent Spotting, Workplace of
Choice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and compensation programs.
Support processes on employee life cycle from hire to exit.
Function as escalation point of contact for uncommon or exceptional
employee issues.
Partner with Legal and Government to maintain in-depth knowledge of
employment requirements related to management of employees, reducing legal
risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with legal departments
as needed/required.
Identify areas of opportunity for continuous improvement and partner with
COEs to build effective working relationships and provide constructive
field perspective to influence common processes and procedures.
Leadership Coaching: Identifies individual leadership coaching needs and
performs necessary coaching to Leaders.
Labor:
Manage positive working relationship with union officials and adheres to
terms of labor contract by monitoring day-to-day implementation of
policies and agreements concerning wages, hours and working conditions,
including investigating, answering, and settling grievances, problem-
resolution, implementation of strategic initiatives and lead in
negotiations where required / applicable.
Support the facilitation of training to the workforce.
Support Global Manufacturing System Team on People Involvement pillar
(GMS) and Workplace Safety System Implementation.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in HR, LR, Business, related field OR at least 4 years
equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years of experience providing HR and/or LR support to an
organization
Experience working in a union environment, negotiating, and resolving
conflicts
What can give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in HR, LR, business or related field
Understanding of Health and Safety practices and requirements
Experience in Warehouse, Manufacturing, Operation or Distribution
Organized, able to work independently, meet deadlines and thrive in an
ambiguous environment
Highly proficient analytical and project management skills
Strong Interpersonal Skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HR applications (e.g.
Workday, etc.)
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding HR/LR matters
