We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that
take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We are bringing urban air mobility to
life by introducing our air taxis and drones as an electric addition to
current transportation options in megacities worldwide. Our aim is to offer
affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them
safely to their destination. In 2011, we performed the first-ever crewed
flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous
public flights with our full-scale Volocopters (www. volocopter.com).
We are seeking a Power Distribution Certification Engineer to join our team.
As a Power Distribution Certification Engineer, you will be responsible for
capturing, maintaining and having in-depth discussions with the aviation
certification agencies such as EASA, FAA and others related to electrical
power distribution certification requirements and standards while ensuring
that the aircraft's high voltage and low voltage power distribution systems
and its components meet the applicable requirements. You will play a critical
role in reviewing design data, testing, inspection, and analysis documentation
that enables the certification of the Power Distribution System while
integrated to its applicable aircraft electrical, mechanical, thermal, and
logical interfaces. Your strong knowledge electrical related standards and
your communication skills will be essential in driving the Power Distribution
System design towards optimal performance and compliance.
Your mission during this flight:
Work in close collaboration with other Power Distribution System Engineers
to guide and review the design and life cycle data pertaining the
development of high voltage and low voltage power distribution components
such as high voltage power centers, circuit breaker panels, low voltage
emergency batteries and overhead HV and LV electrical control panels.
Act as a Compliance Verification Engineer in the Design Organization
Approval executing the compliance verification activities as demanded by
Volocopter's CVE scope.
Be the focal point in the Power Distribution System team with EASA and
other certification agencies while organizing and defining the closure or
mitigation plan to address action items raised by the authorities on
design and documents related to the development of the Power Distribution
System.
Represent the Power Distribution System team in EUROCAE's WGs 112 SG-1 and
116 SG-1 and other relevant industry working groups (e.g. SAE, RTCA,
ASML) discussing aviation electrical power distribution certification.
Reviews internal and supplier's design data (such as requirements
specifications and design description documents), testing, inspection and
analysis documentation that demonstrates compliance to the applicable
system, subsystem and components certification requirements pertaining the
Aircraft's Power Distribution System according to its Certification Plan.
Defines and discuss potential updates to the Electric Propulsion System
Certification Plan that are related to detailed certification requirements
means of compliance types (MOC1 to 9) pertaining the Power Distribution
System.
Reviews and discuss the extent of potential non-compliances or alternative
show compliance methods to any certification requirements with the
certification authorities.
Closely collaborate with the design engineers to ensure that the Power
Distribution System design and development activities meet all necessary
certification requirements.
Reviews suppliers and partners technical documentation for compliance
demonstration and dispositions non-compliances, either accepting or
challenging the suppliers based on fundamental technical and certification
background.
Collaborate with the test and verification teams to review test plans and
setups to ensure successful certification compliance demonstration of the
electrical power distribution system design.
Check in your professional skills:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Strong knowledge of SC-VTOL when it comes to finding compliance of the
electrical power system and component design through the means of
compliance described in the MOC-2-SC-VTOL subparts D, E and F.
Strong knowledge of EASA's CS25 requirements and the applicable AMCs of
Subpart F – Equipment “Electrical Systems and Equipment” e.g. CS 25.1351,
CS25.1353, etc and the ability to evaluate currently CS25 certified
aircraft and understand why they do comply with these requirements.
In-depth knowledge of aerospace standards and regulations, such as SC-
VTOL, ARP-4754, DO-254, DO-178 and DO-160, and their implications to the
development of the system components and its integration.
Capable reviewer of engineering documents, such as design description
documents, test plans/procedures/results, analysis and inspection reports
for compliance demonstration.
Strong knowledge of failure modes related to power distribution systems
and its components (overvoltage, types of short-circuits, loss of
electrical insulation, etc)
Fluent in English.
Preferred Skills:
Active member of EUROCAE's Working group WG-112 SG-1 / Electrical
discussing ED-296 and ED-290 or equivalent.
Active member of EUROCAE's Working group WG-116 SG-1 / High Voltage
Systems and Components in Aviation or equivalent.
Good background on IEC standards that may support compliance demonstration
to EASA's certification requirements when it comes to electrical power
distribution safety of aircrafts.
Connected to the aviation community when it comes to the key certification
challenges for high voltage systems in aircrafts.
In-depth understanding of electrical components for aviation such as HV
and LV fuses, HV and LV SSPCs, HV and LV Contactors, HV to LV DC-DC
converters, Diodes, Circuit Breakers, Connectors, Studs, etc.
Solid functional understanding of electrical magnitudes (voltage,
current, power, energy) monitoring systems and methodologies for
controlling electrical connection devices.
Experience with advanced electrical technologies and emerging trends in
the aerospace industry for high voltage and low voltage power
distribution.
Basic knowledge of communication buses and their logical integration
within and outside the electrical power distribution systems.
