Job Responsibilities:
Conform to all Plant safety standards. Complete all safety and corporate required training. Participate and provide feedback during Safety Observation Tours (SOT)
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Ability to read, understand and interpret part drawings, gear and spline charts, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Program and operate Gleason and Klingelnberg gear checking machines based on gear and spline chart inspection data and part drawings. Interpret results and provide feedback to Shift Lead, Group Lead, Quality Engineers, Technicians and Product Engineering customers.
Program and Operate CMM Machines to inspect various types of Drive Unit parts including but not limited to Gears, shafts, bearings, housings.
Program and operate surface finish inspection machines and provide surface finish of gear teeth and shafts features and provide inspection data to technicians and engineers.
Perform open set-up inspection on granite surface plates for various part features based on inspection work orders and part prints.
Assist problem solving efforts by providing inspection method suggestions to engineering and other stake holders
Ability to inspect low volume production part batches and develop final inspection reports to current standards. Provide disposition and proper tagging of discrepant parts per GMS requirements.
Work with Product Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to assist in manufacturing and part validation problem solving through detailed inspection methods. Interpret results and communicate effectively to all stake holders
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; escalating issues.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Assist Group Leader and Shift Leader with overall inspection workflow through Gear Center.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
Perform pre-processing and end of line processing that includes part staging, washing, laser etching, packaging and basic inspection.
Ability to work weekends, overtime and off shifts as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate Degree in automotive technology or related field or equivalent experience and certifications
3+ years of experience in gear inspection
Tooling knowledge
Ability to understand basic mechanical concepts
Ability to program and operate CMM and Gear Inspection equipment
Ability to perform surface finish inspection on gear teeth and shaft features, with surface finish inspection machine
Ability to perform basic inspection set up and various inspection tasks within a fully operational Metrology Lab.
Thorough understanding of math and mechanical engineering principles
Ability to read engineering drawings
Analytical ability where problems are somewhat complex
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Knowledge of statistical methods
Proficient computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in helical gears (Pinion Shaft, Rotor Shaft, Ring or Transfer)
