The Gear Center Pre-Production Execution Engineer is responsible for leading the early development and execution of solutions for gear systems and provide PPO with the equipment, tools, and processes necessary to emulate production BOP & BOE, leverage early Lessons Learned, and enable flawless launches. Work is performed in a team environment, consisting of daily interactions with Product Engineering, Central Mfg Engineering, and PPO Operations. This position will report to the PPO Engineering Execution Team with a direct extension to the Gear & Shaft Central Manufacturing group. Primary location for this position is at the Pontiac Engineering Center.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Define Manufacturing Processes and sequence of operations for Gear systems and prove processes by executing Beta and Gamma programs.
  • Engineer, Evaluate Supplier (OEM) proposals, Design, Build and Implement machinery, tools & equipment that meet our specifications, quality and safety criteria.
  • Lead the procurement, installation, debug, runoff and G-Comply/Green tag for new equipment.
  • Develop and execute plan to process PPO part orders and support operations with day to day technical/process needs.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to meet program targets and metrics.
  • Develop and test of advanced process technology.
  • Leverage GD&T skillsets to ensure equipment, tooling, processes, and quality verifications meet design requirement.
  • Serve as the communications bridge between Product Engineering, PPO Manufacturing, and Central Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Provide technical support for solving problems and driving issues to resolution.
  • Lead Gear Center Strategic Roadmap and drive action items to completion.
  • Gather lessons learned through out the project execution, feedforward/feedback information to improve ME BOP/BOE.
  • Prepare status reports and present updates to leadership as needed.

    Key Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional industry experience in machining process development experience in Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering discipline with plant floor experience
  • Strong technical knowledge & ability in process engineering disciplines and product development process
  • Experience in process development, specification, procurement, and qualification of manufacturing equipment & tooling
  • Solid understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes
  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and design for manufacturability.
  • Gear Manufacturing Experience
  • ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team- based achievements.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Transmission/Drive Unit BOE, BOP, BOSE and BOO
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Team Center, Microsoft Project, Simulation and CAD/CAM systems.
  • Strong Statistical problem solving training (Red X/ DFSS)
  • Proficient working in challenging environments
  • Knowledge or Global Manufacturing System or similar manufacturing philosophies
