Job Description

The welding process engineer will be responsible for the development, validation and execution of welding processes for all lithium ion battery systems including the battery cell and battery module. The work spans through all program phases from concept initiation to successful production launches. The work is performed in a team environment where you will have daily interaction with product engineering, plant process engineering, the research team, suppliers and others to successfully launch new products. The work environment includes a central engineering center, laboratories and production facilities. This an outstanding opportunity to work on leading edge technology that requires innovation and creativity as we move toward the electrification of vehicles.

Responsible for validation and execution of processes for battery pack manufacturing. The candidate needs to work closely with equipment manufacturers, product engineering, supplier quality and launch teams.

  • Perform tryout, verification and debug of manufacturing systems, tools and equipment
  • Provide technical support for installation of tools and equipment
  • Provide technical support for training of plant personnel
  • Work with product engineering to ensure manufacturability of design
  • Develop and document specifications and standards for equipment, processes and product quality
  • Participate in equipment supplier selection
  • Responsible for project management including timing, budget and deliverables
  • Responsible for continuous improvement projects to increase throughput and reduce cost
  • Organize and coordinate root cause analysis and problem solving activities related to quality

    Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in welding, metallurgical, chemical, electrical, mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and experience with welding/joining processes
  • Knowledge of battery manufacturing processes
