Process Engineer - Transmission & Drive Unit Assembly

OVERVIEW :

The Assembly Process group develops and implements innovative assembly processes that enable robust manufacturing for Transmissions & Drive Units.

The primary responsibility will be to source, design, build and qualify the assembly process and equipment, from initial design to implementation at the manufacturing site.

Primary location on this position is GM Global Technical Center , Warren, Michigan.

GM's new philosophy of “Work Appropriately” policy enables our process engineers to work remotely when on-site (lab, plant, supplier, etc.) is not required to do the job most effectively.

This position involves occasional travels to various GM sites & Supplier locations to supplier project implementation. The Process Engineer will be responsible for Transmission and Drive Unit Assembly projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineer, Design, Build and Implement machinery, tools & equipment for the best assembly process for manufacturing Transmissions & Drive Units.
  • Direct the design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants to produce high-quality parts.
  • Monitor expenditures and timing for the program and/or equipment, ensuring spending stays within allocated budget.
  • Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources.
  • Develop and test of advanced process technology.
  • Develop and maintain necessary documentation (PFD, PFMEA, PCP)
  • Leverage GD&T skillsets to ensure manufacturing equipment, tooling, assembly processes, and quality verifications procedures meet design requirement.
  • Travel requirements – up to 20% (US, Canada and Mexico)
  • Additional Description

    Required:

  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 5+ years of assembly process experience in Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering discipline with plant floor experience (drive units, transmissions, engines or powertrain components) .
  • Strong technical knowledge & ability in process engineering disciplines and product development process
  • Experience in process development, specification, procurement, and qualification of equipment & tooling.
  • Solid understanding of high volume manufacturing & assembly processes
  • Preferred:

  • Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and design for manufacturability.
  • ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team- based achievements.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Transmission/Drive Unit BOE, BOP, BOSE and BOO preferred
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Team Center, Microsoft Project, Simulation.
  • Statistical problem solving training
  • Proficient working in development environments​
