The Motion Product Engineer position is located in Waukegan, IL. In this role you will:

  • Perform testing and troubleshooting of Yaskawa motion control products, both in Yaskawa's laboratory and in the field
  • Support our applications and development teams in the delivery of new products
  • Provide technical expertise to assist fellow Yaskawa engineers and customers in applying Yaskawa motion control products
  • Continually increase knowledge of Yaskawa motion control products and their applications
  • Support certification testing to ensure product conformance to required standards
  • The successful candidate will be driven to learn and master motion control technology, and to apply practical engineering knowledge learned during study.

    Requirements :

  • BS in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Some application engineering experience in a related field preferred. Will consider new college graduate.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation, specifically servo motion control concepts and PLC programming, is desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, accelerometers, etc.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, including technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a team approach.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CAD software is desirable.
  • Familiarity with computer programming languages such as C# or Python is desirable.
  • The Product Engineering group engages in many activities which make the job interesting and varied. Some detailed job responsibilities include:

  • Become well versed with Yaskawa's servo, motion control, and robotics products and lab equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise to support customer applications by telephone, e-mail, and on-site at customer facilities. This includes providing support for product selection, hands-on assistance for equipment start-up, product and applications training, and general technical support.
  • Provide servo product technical expertise and support to other Yaskawa engineering groups: field service, product development, repair, quality control, and manufacturing. This might require travel to other Yaskawa or customer facilities in the US and overseas.
  • Assist our product development group with testing of new products, features, and software.
  • Assist our quality control group with failure analyses. Research, document, and recommend solutions to improve product quality.
  • Assist our manufacturing group with the design and deployment of manufacturing procedures and systems for automated testing on the assembly line.
  • Support certification testing to ensure product conformance to required standards such as UL, CE, and IEC 61508 safety.
