Description

Hybrid - Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week.

The Role

As a Quality, Reliability, Durability Engineer for Engines, Electrical Motors, Power Electronics and Charging inlets you will be responsible for driving robust problem definition of warranty issues leading toward increased customer satisfaction (reduced IPTV) and reduced warranty spending (reduced CPV). This includes analyzing warranty trends in GM Quality Systems (QDAP, TrackerGart, etc) in partnership with CQEs, reviewing returned warranty parts alongside technical experts, and leading warranty discussion within the Program Management Teams (PMTs). With actionable problems defined, you will partner with the DREs to ensure robust root cause and solutions are documented and communicated across the corporation through status reports at Core Product Development Team (PDT) and System Management Team (SMT) meetings, among others. All while collaborating with Quality Chain Engineers, Technical Specialists, Design System Engineers, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, and others in documenting lessons learned to drive toward defect free vehicles. This is a great opportunity to act as the Voice of the Customer within the Core PDT.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Provide Core PDT team with Project Focus Areas and create Mitigation plans for IPTV and Warranty Cost.

  • Manage Warranty tracking – issue identification, root cause, breakpoint, and resolution.

  • Lead the evaluation of product program content for risks to future product quality in terms of initial quality, customer satisfaction, and long-term reliability; and support cross functional mitigation plan development.

  • Have a good understanding of Quality Processes and apply the knowledge effectively to capture systemic lessons when things go wrong (ie. Warranty, PRD/PAL/Field Actions,…)

  • Manage WPAC (Warranty Parts Analysis Center) Work Cells and program Reviews – the analysis of actual customer parts.

  • Participate in Prevent Repeat Defect (PRD) process to institutionalize lessons learned from defects.

  • Aid in identification of systemic issues leading to warranty claims

  • Work with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, Validation, AVDC, Suppliers as required to drive Defect Free Execution

  • Conduct research on current field issues affecting PDT/Program (Warranty, JD Power, Compass etc) to establish Quality priorities to be used as lessons learned in Robustness Plan, DFSS, and DFMEA discussions.

  • Collaborate with Customer Quality Engineers and Product Engineering to establish priorities to address risks and opportunities in BOM ROW selections, new and carryover content.

  • Participate in Global forums and Labor Code Robustness initiatives for assigned product areas.

  • Understand global competitiveness in assigned product areas using competitive data (JD Power, Benchmarking data, etc.)

  • Mentor / coach team members

  • Represent the team as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for one or more QRD process

  • Follow-up on open action items and provide status updates.

  • Follow industry (AIAG, SAE) and GM standard practices and workbooks.

  • This position also represents Engines, Electrical Motors, Power Electronics and Charging Interface with the vehicle platform program quality leadership and program teams.

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5+ years of related engineering experience

  • 1+ years of experience in Quality or Product Development: (Validation, Reliability Engineering, Quality Tools, Design Release Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering, etc.)

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult

  • Good project management and team facilitation skills

  • Experience utilizing Quality processes

  • DFSS Black Belt certification

  • ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer, Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Manager of Quality

  • Understanding of and ability to use data systems and tools

  • Global Propulsion Systems/Electrification experience

  • Assembly plant experience

  • Supply base experience

  • Understanding of Product Development Process and Quality processes

  • Familiar with Quality Chain Framework
