Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

Who You Are

As a valued Researcher with the Research and Development team here at GM, you will innovate through developing next-gen ideas, suggesting new project areas, and establishing technical plans. You will conduct research to develop next- generation electric motor manufacturing technologies. The next generation of motor manufacturing will require new manufacturing technologies to produce the volume of motors that will be necessary to supply a future with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion. New and innovative methods of creating motor components, assembling motors, and quality inspection will help to get our electric vehicles to the greatest number of customers. You will also write timely and high-quality research reports, external publications, and records of invention to detail new insights and research results in your area of research. Apply today!

What You Do

· Research, develop, and support deployment of advanced manufacturing methods for component fabrication, rotor and stator assembly, and quality verification in the next generation of motors

· Develop and execute technical plans, including concept generation, development, and evaluation

· Manage project timing, budget, and deliverables to execute on time and support production

· Lead technical discussions and reviews as THE resident expert

· Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in related areas of focus

· Communicate ideas, plans, and results effectively via presentations and written reports

· Work effectively with peers, management, operations groups, and outside organizations

What You Need

· PhD in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with demonstrated research capability

· Solid understanding and hands-on experience with manufacturing, automation, and quality engineering systems

· Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for both internal and external GM customers

What Would Be Even Better

· Experience with stator, rotor, or other motor manufacturing processes

· Experience with electrical, insulation, or magnetic quality measurement

· Experience with improving manufacturing rate, first-time acceptance, or quality in industrial processes
