  • This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
  • The Role:

    In this exciting new role! The high voltage battery technician specializes in the safe and orderly preparation, testing and disassembly of Reserve Energy Storage System (RESS) Packs within a teardown cell environment. The RESS is the high voltage battery pack for an Electric Vehicle. This role will directly affect the quality and durability of electrified vehicles developed by General Motors.

    Our team is looking for a candidate that is passionate about an all-electric future that we can train to be a high voltage battery expert. This position is based in General Motors' Pontiac, Michigan Building C Dyno Wing. The lab and results it produces are used by GM's growing team of engineers to determine the root cause of failed components, to develop and implement corrective actions in production. All of this in support of the vision of a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion.

    This role is a good fit for a qualified individual who is interested in innovative high voltage battery technologies and growing in the field of vehicle electrification.

    What You'll Do:

  • Champion safe teardown of battery assemblies and related components. This includes defining and performing procedures and checks to ensure test results are delivered on-time and with quality.

  • Develop and manufacture special purpose instrumentation, cable and wiring assemblies, laboratory test equipment, and fixtures related to testing

  • Perform physical duties involving large and heavy high voltage batteries including rigging, movement, shipping, and disposal using forklift and overhead crane equipment

  • Maintain records on work performed including data collected or analyzed

  • Maintain awareness of Business Plan Deployment goals and objectives, identify and suggest relevant opportunities for improvement

  • Develop, implement, and sustain workplace organization practices

  • Communication of findings with engineering personnel through verbal or written means

  • Recommend revisions to process and procedures to improve safety and efficiency

  • In addition to high voltage battery teardown on site, this position also supports our Field Response Team which may require travel to a dealers or other sites to disassemble and unstable to risk pack.

  • Additional Description

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 5 years related technician work experience

  • Detailed knowledge of complex mechanical and/or electrical concepts

  • Competence with typical office computer applications, e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Knowledge of high voltage battery systems and safe work practices

  • Experience with high voltage test equipment, measuring and recording devices

  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics diagnostics and repair
