Introduction

Dedrone, a leading Smart Airspace Security company, is uniquely positioned to reshape the commercial and government Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems market. Our systems detect, track, identify, analyze, and mitigate UAS threats. To help progress this mission, we are seeking talented RF Engineers to help develop our next generation of UAS mitigation products. This role will be part of a small product development team. The RF Engineer sits at the interface of the physical and the digital and has expertise in both domains. This person uses their understanding of RF communication signals to develop low-collateral mitigation techniques and deploys them on our hardware. The role will take part in agile product development cycles from concept to product release, but is primarily focused at developing a robust set of electronic attack tools for the UAS threats our customers face.

Responsibilities

The RF Engineer is responsible for the analysis of commercial UAS threats (e.g. DJI, Autel, etc.) from the perspective of their RF communication signals and other emissions. The RF Engineer then develops algorithms for disrupting or exploiting these communications. They work with the product hardware lead to set requirements for the radio hardware, especially concerning the analog front end of the radio, but also the digital architecture. They develop proofs of concept for detection and attack techniques and demonstrate them at increasing levels of maturity from software simulation, to over-the-wire bench-top testing, to over-the-air chamber testing, to field testing against relevant threat UAS. They work with the Dedrone Radio team and the System Architect to best use the information our multi-modal detection system is delivering to our mitigation system, and to integrate these systems in to an end to end solution for our customers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education and experience:
  • PhD or
  • MS + 3 years RF communication or EW experience or
  • BS + 5 years RF communication or EW experience
  • Candidates with greater experience can be considered at a higher level.

  • Understanding of RF communication waveforms: modulations, digital encoding, signal discovery, Digital Signal Processing (DSP), analog transceiver architectures (heterodyne, super-heterodyne, etc.)

  • Prefer candidates with experience in Electronic Warfare (EW) and Electronic Attack (EA) focused on communication signals.
  • Cyber/EW experience is ideal.
  • Thrives in a small team environment where everyone does what is needed without rigid discipline boundaries.
  • Can develop rapid proof of concepts to show basic functionality.
  • US Person: US Citizen or Permanent Resident ("Green Card" holder) or Asylee
  • Incentives

Dedrone offers competitive salaries commensurate with the experience of the applicant.

We also offer equity options in our rapidly growing company. You will not receive this kind of opportunity at a large company. Your financial success is directly tied to the success of the company, which you influence through your work. Additional cash or equity bonuses available for the achievement of significant milestones.

Working at Dedrone you avoid the BS of large company or military contractor bureaucracy. You are free to research and develop cool technology, and gain experience in new fields in a start-up atmosphere.
