The Vehicle Systems Automation Applications & Execution Team is seeking a highly skilled manufacturing Safety Engineer with a thorough knowledge of the industry standards (ANSI, ISO, and CSA) governing the general principles of design safety related parts of a control system, principles of Risk Assessment, safety performance levels (PL) and control categories and how these are applied. to the safety related parts of a control system. This role will require a thorough knowledge of General Motor's overall Design in Safety Process including g-Comply, g-Risk, and g-Placard processes and e-tools as well as a familiarity with Global Design for Health and Safety standard.
This position will hold the responsibility to support execution teams when developing requirements for the safety control system for new equipment and/or processes and will require strong communication and organization skills.
Job Responsibilities:
Owner of the Safety Control System functional Check list tool
Single point contact for 3rd Party Safety Validation (own SOR, support purchasing on contract extensions, resolves issues with execution/plant projects)
Owner of Annex 12 in the Global Placard Standard
Owner of the Vehicle Systems Lock Count Spreadsheet
Support Safety Expert Team on updates to the g-Comply tool
Support Safety Expert Team on updates to the g-Plac tool and Global Placard Standard
Support Safety Expert Team on Programmable Safety System Standard and RUST process
Familiar with the g-Risk process and tool; able to facilitate a g-Risk
Lead VS Safety BPD items
Ability to determine the applicable standard and interpret the standards to provide direction to projects or programs related to Safety requirements.
Familiar with collaborative robot safety requirements
Evaluate new safety products
Support R&D and IT teams in development of custom GM applications related to safety
Support contract service providers in Safety Contract Management and prequalification requirements.
Travel and weekend work may be required and in some cases on short notice
Provide after hours critical downtime support as required
Provide mentoring and coaching for students and new hires
Support the technical development of our suppliers
Perform layered Audits on projects at key milestone dates to ensure compliance to standards
Actively gather and drive closure of lessons learned
Minimum Requirements:
5+ years of experience in execution of robotic cells, conveyors, operator stations with a good understanding of safety requirements.
Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Experience with the design and build of machine meeting Pld, Category 4 architecture using programmable safety devices and safety relays
Experience validating safety circuits with an understanding of potential failure modes
Ability to Travel up to 25%.
