Hybrid: This position is hybrid and requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

The SDV Service Software Architect is the subject matter expert in Software development responsible for architecting new diagnostic software solutions and their interfaces to GM vehicle electrical systems in the Aftersales environment. This includes addressing the capabilities and requirements of the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture and Ultifi cloud-based framework, on top of Diagnostics, Programming and Cybersecurity requirements. Collaborative work with GM SDV Organization, Cybersecurity and Joint Venture Subject Matter Experts is required to define the next generation GM Diagnostic Service Apps and tools. Work is performed in a centralized engineering activity where the highest level of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as the highest level of independent judgment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Define and architecture high-level software system applications, components and their interfaces using the GM Ultifi framework.

  • Define the Aftersales diagnostic tool App/Software roadmap.

  • Own the diagnostic Software strategy for Aftersales Engineering ranging from diagnostic tool to cloud-based solutions.

  • Define and coordinate the technical tasks for the development of In-House software and interfaces for vehicle diagnostics and programming applications internally and across functional teams.

  • Technically Lead Software initiatives across the Global Aftersales Diagnostics Hardware and Software Team.

  • Responsible for GM diagnostic and programming software strategy to support new GM vehicle architectures (i.e.: SDV – Software Defined Vehicle, VIP - Vehicle Intelligence Platform, etc.)

  • Architect and sustain future developments on software simulation tools, used by the diagnostic scan tool, programming and IT teams to support the Virtual By 2025 Vision.

  • Create/Manage architecture diagrams/plans.

  • Review/Approve Eng. Change Requests that impact GM Aftersales Diagnostic tools/software globally.

  • Stay up to date on company-wide and industry best practices and trends relevant to position.

  • Work closely with and support various teams inside and outside of GM globally: cybersecurity, product SDV engineering, aftersales, suppliers/vendors, joint ventures, special projects, etc., on new technology solutions for service.

  • Ensure all the developers understand the big picture.

  • Efficiently communicate technical issues/decisions to management.

  • Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Software Eng., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related degree).

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Android Java/Kotlin, C and C++ programming language skills.

  • Knowledge of vehicle electrical architecture standards and vehicle serial data communications/networks.

  • Expertise in Vehicle Serial Data Protocols: CAN (ISO15765), UDS (ISO14229) and DoIP (ISO13400).

  • Experience in diagnostic strategy or software architect.

  • Embedded and cloud-based software development experience.

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and root cause analysis skills.

  • Excellent multi-functional communication and collaboration skills.

  • Proven results in successful project execution.

  • Preferred Skills, Abilities and Experiences:

  • Windows based application development.

  • Familiar with GM's Service Programming System (SPS/SPS 2), and Global Diagnostics Tool (GDS 2).
