Description

Provide advice and counsel to management, Manufacturing Leadership GM Workplace Safety and GM Medical on state and federal workplace safety regulations, including related policies.

Provide advice and counsel to GM Workplace Safety on:

  • reporting and recordkeeping obligations,
  • OSHA onsite inspections of GM facilities,
  • response to OSHA safety and retaliation complaints, and
  • resolution and/or litigation of OSHA citations issued to GM sites.
  • Provide support, advice and counsel to GM Audit Services on health and safety audits, including reviewing of audit reports and drafting of close- out letters to audited sites.
  • Review and advise on various GM Workplace Safety communications relating to actual or potential injuries, including bulletins and incident reports.
  • Support implementation and management of the GM Workplace Safety System at Legal Staff sites related to identifying and resolving safety concerns, investigating safety incidents, creating safe work practices, and communicating safety-related information.
  • Provide regular updates to Legal Leadership Team on workplace safety data, trends, and pertinent incidents, and represent Legal Staff at functional safety meetings.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining global standards and creating a global center of excellence for workplace safety.
  • Support and contribute to the Global Workplace Safety Organization's annual objectives.
  • Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10-15 years of workplace safety experience; law firm training preferred, prior in-house experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred. Work in the battery electric environment a huge plus.
  • Ability to sit “first chair” on projects and inspire cross-functional team to high performance
  • Demonstrated experience directly advising senior business leaders on workplace safety matters
  • Prior experience managing and advising on cross-border workplace safety matters strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in process development and innovation; ability to form common processes to handle matters efficiently
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance, integrity and quality
  • Demonstrated experience providing legal advice in a highly regulated environment
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively and ability to make on the spot risk calls
  • Demonstrated experience prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast paced environment
  • Ability to collaborate, build relationships, gain credibility, and partner effectively with others up and down a matrixed organization
  • Self-directed, solution-focused individual that with strong work ethic and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to achieve enterprise-wide results
  • Ability to strategically guide the organization through change and inspire others to get involved and solve problems
  • Knowledge and experience in key legal trends that impact the business
  • Ability to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback and boldly share ideas without fear
  • Strong oral and written communicator with an aptitude for critical thinking and succinctly presenting the best course of action
  • Excellent computer skills, including advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge and understanding of automotive industry environment and business needs is a plus

    Education Requirements:

  • Law degree from an accredited college or university
  • Admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction in the United States and, if not admitted in Michigan, the ability to qualify for in-house counsel status in Michigan
  • Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is : $225,000- $275,000 . Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

    Bonus/Equity Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
