Senior Enterprise Architect - SDV

This position is a newly added role to the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) organization at GM.

The SDV team works on ADAS software, Infotainment Services, AI-based Apps, Energy (EV) & Connected Mobility Services, Software Architecture, Systems Engineering, Software Integration, Product and Program Management - all to provide cool features such as Super Cruise and Ultra Cruise to our customers (autonomous driving technologies). As a Senior Enterprise Architect , you will be in a leadership position responsible for the design and communication of high-level structures to enable and guide the design and development of integrated solutions that meet current and future business needs. You will be expected to have multi- discipline expertise and a practical knowledge of industry standard architectural patterns, technologies and architecture management processes.

In this position, you will lead, apply, and understand the standards process and be able to design systems that conform to established standards. This will involve owning the definition of SDV technology direction, standards and roadmaps across one or more business or technical domains and ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) are applied correctly.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong customer focus and communication skills to facilitate conversations between architects from across IT and SDV organizations and domains; and to lead the evaluation of new technologies for inclusion as GM standards.

  • Responsible for knowing the latest trends with commercial and open source software and technologies in order to effectively run their lifecycles to ensure currency and modernization of GM SDV applications.

  • Responsible for leading the definition of current and future state enterprise level solution architectures which includes evaluation, selection and integration of necessary technical components to create solution designs that support the defined functional and non-functional requirements across multiple domains.

  • Ensure that all solutions across multiple assigned domains conform to architectural requirements such as scalability, maintainability, reliability, extensibility, usability and security across multiple domain areas.

  • Responsible for establishing streamlined and automated processes including developing and/or implementing tools to allow internal organizations to follow standards, policies, and methodologies.

  • May be responsible to serve as a solution architect for development of tools necessary to automate the tactical work associated with search, implementation, and compliance of IT and SDV standards. Includes working knowledge of languages like Java and JavaScript.

  • Identify and comprehend the implications of technology decisions and recommendations across multiple domain areas. This includes identification and mitigation of technology related risks introduced by technology decisions.

  • Provide guidance, coaching and/or training to others as appropriate. Hold themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. Model GM behaviors and creates a winning culture.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field

  • 15+ years of relevant experience that includes 5+ years of experience architecting large scale technology/software systems in a professional/corporate environment that are complex, real time, distributed and highly scalable

  • Experience creating design documentation and communicating using diagrams such as Flow Charts, Activity Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, Swim lanes, PowerPoint Presentations, animations, etc.

  • Experience developing frameworks/portals used by other teams/consumers

  • Experience with Containers and Kubernetes

  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices

  • Knowledge of Programming patterns

  • Knowledge of Database Design/Querying

  • Experience with hosting applications in cloud platforms

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Development experience on multi-disciplinary teams in Vehicle Connectivity, backoffice and mobile

  • A passion for innovation and raising the bar in teams, technology, and projects

  • Strong security experience related to large scale cloud applications and in vehicle and mobile

  • Preferred Qualification:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field

  • 15+ years experience developing/deploying technology software systems in a professional/corporate environment

  • 10+ years experience leading Enterprise architecture across multiple domains

  • Experience working with large-scale data sets in an enterprise environment

  • Experience in architecting for security and identity

  • Experience architecting within Azure cloud is preferred

  • Experience with at least one Messaging Tool (such as IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ, Kafka, etc.)

  • Experience with OSI, TCP/IP networking and routing, Public key Cryptography and its applications, Data Structures, XML, Protobuf, JSON, Multithreading , Reactive Programming, User Interface Design, Messaging Protocols and Tools and Products , NO SQL, REST API
