Introduction
The Safety Engineer will manage and continuously improve iRobot product safety
processes and design requirements through in-depth knowledge and communication
of product safety principles, best in class processes, and safety standard
requirements.
You will also be responsible for development and continuous improvement of
product safety risk assessment and mitigation processes, field returns
assessment, executive and technical communication, documentation, and
education of internal and external functional organizations.
This role is structured in the Product Safety and Compliance Engineering team
responsible for iRobot product safety requirements coupled with applicable
international standards and regulations throughout the product lifecycle
providing world-class safety and regulatory leadership and management.
We accomplish our mission through robust and effective product safety
management processes, regulatory and standards expertise, constant
communication, and assurance processes in partnership with R&D engineering,
Product Management, Supply Chain Operations, Quality, and other internal and
external stakeholders.
What You Will Do:
Requires deep technical product safety knowledge with the ability to
develop, communicate, and implement product safety relevant capabilities
considering best-in-class capabilities and customer impact.
Requires education and explanation to others about the expectations and
desired outcomes of effective product safety engineering.
Must be able to competently communicate both orally and in writing
requirements, concepts, a vision, and actions at all levels of the
company.
Lead the company's cross-functional Product Safety Review Board.
Typical activities will include management of product safety risk
assessment processes and subsequent risk mitigation assurance.
Assess and highlight potential product safety issues based on intended
product use and foreseeable misuse applications; anticipate, recognize,
and evaluate safety hazards.
Effectively document and communicate product safety, regulatory, and
standards requirements; develop tests and experiments to evaluate product
safety; develop and write procedures and specifications.
Provide training to other functional engineering teams; evaluate product
marking, packaging, and user documentation to ensure conformity with
requirements and hazard assessments.
Evaluate product changes and customer returns for impact to product
safety; manage and maintain systems to investigate product safety issues
and incident mitigation efforts internally and externally to fruition.
Work with regulatory agencies and other external sources to understand
upcoming changes in regulations and to determine, in advance, the impact
on new and legacy iRobot products.
To Be Successful You Will Have:
Must have demonstrated deep technical knowledge of product safety
standards, principles, and practices.
The successful candidate must be confident and socially engaging.
Degree in electrical, safety, or mechanical engineering is required
7+ years in both industry and certification agencies as a practicing
product safety engineer in home appliances, electronics, or similar
industry.
Must have a deep understanding of risk assessment and management, DFMEA,
problem solving, and program management.
Requires a highly organized individual with the ability to juggle multiple
competing projects and prioritized tasks.
Requires the ability to manage complex issues to fruition with technical
expertise and communication skills at the executive level.
