The Plant Floor Systems – Error Proofing Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for leading developmental efforts for Error Proofing system while also supporting the automation execution teams and plants with technical issues resolution by providing technical direction, leading common processes and procedures and driving continuous improvement. Work is performed in a central manufacturing engineering activity with expert level support to vehicle assembly plant when deemed necessary. This requires considerable amount of creativity and initiative as well as an elevated level of independent judgment. Work involves development, testing and piloting of advanced process technology for Error Proofing systems.
Job Responsibilities:
Collaborates with IT development team to capture, prioritize and document advance development activities for Error Proofing
Provide Error Proofing technical direction and support to Global PFS teams on design, construction, integration, validation of respective hardware and software applications
Coordinate with PFS Staff engineer and other SMEs for Error Proofing execution resource planning, trainings & development efforts
Support technical inputs and guidance to vendors, system suppliers needing Error Proofing interface & support validation efforts in lab
Lead necessary Hardware and software updates needed for Error Proofing architecture & applications in Man B lab
Leads efforts related to Error Proofing simulation mode related interface w.r.t application and PLC codes
Maintain & update CDE tool as needed
Support plants & execution teams with root cause identification for Error Proofing related issues
Maintain Error Proofing standard documentation, update and maintain Error Proofing training documents with support from other SMEs, participate in user group meetings
Create & maintain change log sheets, revisions in PLC codes & HMI templates for Error Proofing
Create, maintain, and improve PFS – Error Proofing standardized work, processes and procedures
Maintain PFS-Error Proofing issue development tracking list and update leadership on regular basis
Updates to leadership through Project reviews, strategic development activities, special projects etc.
Lead development of upgrades in Error Proofing architecture, coordinate and track status with IT
Plan, lead and support Pilot activities for applicable modern technology upgrades
Coordinate with Quality, fastening and ME center process experts for Error Proofing evaluation
Coordinate with Network experts for analysis on DeviceNet and Ethernet related issues
Share lessons and knowledge with Error Proofing team for developmental efforts
Document issues, detailed analysis, learnings, and track progress
Travel to GM NA plants, vendor facilities as needed (~15 %)
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field with Specialization in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science or information technology.
Experience in Manufacturing Engineering Plant Floor systems
Hands on experience in automation controls design, project execution within GM with strong knowledge of GM Common controls Hardware and Software
Strong knowledge of Error Proofing systems in GM – Error Proofing Platform, GEP, EP, SEP, LEP etc. with Proficiency in GM Controls architecture
Prior hands-on experience in PLC, HMI programming, Ethernet and Devicenet networks
Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
Multiple different ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team-based achievements
Elevated level of engineering and critical thinking skills
Thorough knowledge of the GM Mfg processes, in GA & Body and GPS shops, quality systems
Working Knowledge of plant floor systems including Error Proofing, Production Monitoring and Control, Andon Systems, Upload/Download and Compare, Throughput and Material Call
Prior Work Experience in tooling Systems with knowledge of Common Controls Hardware and Common
Demonstrated understanding of Vehicle manufacturing process & parts design interface for Error Proofing applications
Process (GSIP), Global Enterprise Production and Information Control System (GEPICS), Global Production Monitoring and Controls (GPM&C) and MASS (Upload, Download and compare).
Working knowledge of GMIT Launch Processes Plant job assignments 2-3 years (desirable) Demonstrated maintenance of technical competency in relevant field Controls Software Standards
Strong working knowledge of Manufacturing related IT systems including Global Standard Inspection
