Description

GM IT Ireland is a dynamic and fast-paced organization responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining all IT infrastructure, applications, and solutions supporting GM's global operations. As part of the global rollout of our Connected Vehicle Infrastructure, we are establishing a dedicated software development team. This team will play a crucial role in supporting these activities and driving innovation, speed, and business value. We offer an exciting opportunity to join a high-performance development team that will be at the core of GM's future plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in an Agile/Scrum environment, coding and debugging applications in one or more software languages, with a strong focus on software quality and maintainability.
  • Contribute expert opinions and innovative ideas throughout the development cycle.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with team members and leadership.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting bugs, as well as writing test cases in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team.
  • Document software and ensure that technical documentation meets GM standards.
  • Uphold GM's values and cultural behaviors, model GM behaviors, and contribute to building a winning culture.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address software challenges effectively.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior software developers.
  • Act as an escalation point for bug fixing and complex coding issues.
  • Support and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Focus on building Microservices using Java and Spring.
  • Key Technologies:

    Languages and frameworks, including but not limited to:

  • Java, Spring, Python.
  • SQL databases.
  • Kafka.
  • Microservices, REST.
  • Azure, Kubernetes.
  • CI/CD with Maven and Azure DevOps.
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Spring, Python.
  • Solid understanding of SQL databases and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with Microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like Azure and containerization technologies like Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD processes using tools like Maven and Azure DevOps.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior developers is a plus.
  • Hybrid:

    Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week.
