The Sr. Body Shop Controls Applications Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting the body shop automation execution teams and plants with technical issues resolution, providing technical direction, creating and maintaining body shop automation common processes and procedures and driving continuous improvement. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. Work will involve development, testing and piloting of advanced process technology.
Job Responsibilities:
Cross Regional & Global Center coordination
Provide applications support as required with a focus on Body shop
Respond to systemic issues affecting current production
Provide feedback to the global controls standards team and drive continuous improvement to standards
Collaborate with the Global standards team on new developments
Develop control system designs for NA applications with any required training/documentation. Supervise additional resources as required.
Deep integration with body shop process and equipment
Provide current operations support
Provide support for Safety Systems / Standards / Solutions
Drive common execution across all projects/programs (participate in the tech summit roll-outs, facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and maintain standardized work.
Create/maintain execution processes and procedures
Required to provide after hours critical downtime support as required
Provide mentoring and coaching for students and new hires
Support the technical development of our suppliers
Perform layered Audits on projects at key milestone dates to ensure compliance to standards
Actively gather and drive closure of lessons learned
Minimum Requirements:
5+ years of experience in body shop controls
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a body shop manufacturing environment
Expert technical knowledge and ability in body shop process
Prior experience working with and applying GCCH, GCCS and GCB
Extensive experience in PLC, HMI programming, EPLAN, Ethernet and Devicenet networks
Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives
Prior experience in body shop controls
Ability to design and trouble shoot body shop controls systems (HW &SW)
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
Multiple different manufacturing controls lead assignments with successful individual achievements
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of plant job assignments
Demonstrates maintenance of technical competency in relevant field
Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and product design manufacturability
Global Exposure working with others from other regions to complete projects
Travel of approximately 25%
